My  gripe has been and continues to be simply this: what Shaw inherited has not been restored or replenished. For the sake of his legacy, he must reverse what's trending right now. If he doesn't, he will be forever be known as the guy who took what he inherited from his predecessor on to unprecedented heights -- before riding it straight into the ground.

Wish I had articulated that thought . . . 

BTW, even I, the resident pessimist, think Stanford will win some games this year.  Stanford will play better than it did at KSU, including against opponents who are not as good a team as KSU (don't know if KSU is actually good, but am pretty sure some P12 opponents are bad).  I just hope some of the wins this year are more attributable to the former than the latter.

I am hoping that Shaw will look at what has transpired over the past 4+ plus seasons realize this is an opportunity to established his own positive legacy by re-building the program to the same level that it was when he became the HC.  Sure things have changed on the recruiting time-line that does put Stanford at a bit more of a disadvantage than before, but Shaw needs to look for ways to use this as an opportunity to sell the 40 year decision and the competitive aspects of playing at Stanford.

There's a straight line between (a) the generic, vanilla S&C program Stanford evidently runs today in the absence of Turley and (b) the decline of the larger football program. Anybody who will not (or cannot) see this is a Mr. Magoo.

As I recall, there were a great number of injuries in Turley's next-to-last and last years as well. I know that doesn't resonate with your view but that's what I remember.

Would also note that Turley was bumped up from the S&C director for the football team to the S&C director for the whole athletics department.  I don't know how much he was still involved with the football team (I think a fair bit, despite his title), but it is fair to ask if the change made a difference.

Or, this is just one of those things where correlation is not causation.  Injuries are stochastic events, though I think conventional wisdom is that they are more likely to occur during periods of fatigue when form suffers, which can be a result of inferior conditioning.
