What I saw from Nivar was a general lack of effort when she was on the court. Other girls were playing hard, diving for loose balls, playing tight defense, and running in transition. You would think with the opportunity to play in a nationally televised game with this caliber of competition a player would give an all-out effort. While she had a few good plays indicating that she has talent, I am worried about her motor/motivation. Perhaps watching the effort continuously put out by the Hulls, Wilson, and Jump has raised my expectations too high.
Nivar did get a game leading 5 steals in somewhat limited time. That's got to take some effort, at least.
I only watched the first half and part of the 3rd Q. If she had five steals, then she showed she has the ability to play well. If she can match that ability with full time effort, she will do well at Stanford. From what I watched of her in the video, she didn't run the court on every possession, she didn't pressure her assignment on defense, and she did a lot of standing around outside the 3 point line on offense. She will learn quickly, I hope, that Tara will not play her if she doesn't give 100% on the court.
