Probably nothing new but from a different "point of view".
I must admit that I am disappointed that there are some faculty at Stanford that honestly believe that there is significant cheating going on during the exams they give. I would be even more disappointed if they are correct. I guess that means that "take home" exams aren't popular anymore.
In any case, I do have one proposal. If there are to be proctors in the exam, it must be the professor assigned to teach the class, and not some other individual delegated in their place. Otherwise, no proctor. If the professor feels strongly enough that it is a good idea, I think the students should accept the presence of the one who supposedly taught them. It could be considered as a sign of solidarity. After all, the professors often went to their office where students could go if there were "problems" with the test. I did see that actually matter once. OTOH, if the professor isn't willing to sit there with the students for two hours, a proctor obviously isn't needed.
It might be interesting to see the professor actually take the exam, because in one class I took I was virtually certain he could not have passed it.
