Listened to Coach Kosty's interview. High points:
- Likes his culture and the new coaching staff.
- Playing UH in Hawaii and Northridge will be a challenge
- Will Rottman, big arm, big jump, extra high VB IQ, comes from great VB family, five year starter
- Mentioned Nathan Lietzke, 5th year starter at setter next. Has made jump vs. Penn State and Ball State. Didn't miss a serve until the second set of the second match
- We've done
- MB Nathaniel Gates and Ethan Hill, running defense well and blocking
- Kevin Lamp, former starter, now on bench (this is big...now in a secondary role, meaning others have made developmental leaps)
- Alex Rottman doing well.
- Team hasn't faced adversity yet (injuries, better teams), and so that's the next proving ground, needs to see team response to that.
- Comment on mid-May 2021 reinstatement of MVB program: (1) We had six recruits who went to other schools, contacted us and come back, (2) alumni base rallied and supported the teams, reunions, support, guidance, etc., (3) Our seniors took it upon themselves, post-COVID, were ready to go on the national stage.
- Athletic trainers/sports performance have gotten us to this point. We only had 12 players come back post-COVID, and they were able to get back into shape thanks to trainers' thoughtful, mindful approach to training and strength program.
- MPSF Conference has high talent, so does Big West (MPSF had bifurcated into the two conferences a few years ago). There's no easy matches, all are Top 15 or better, true challenge for our team.
- Very happy with serving and passing, those are the keys to MVB. Get close to the net so the setter can run the offense and keep the other setter off of the net. A tug of war. Whoever wins serving and passing wins the match.
- "Sky's the limit for this team." Very excited to get to MPSF playoffs. National championship will be played at Long Beach this year.
