This is in reference of UCLA firing their head football coach today (9/14/2025) and Virginia Tech firing their head coach today also.
With the firing coming so early in the season, UCLA players could have decisions to make. Because it’s less than five games into the season, players would be eligible to sit out and take a redshirt to keep the year of eligibility. They’re also eligible to enter the transfer portal for the next 30 days, but cannot play for other teams this season.
What happens if enough players decide to take a redshirt and UCLA does not have enough healthy players to practice or field a team. IIRC this happened last year just before the start of bowl season when one team's coach quite to take another job prior to the bowl game that his current team was scheduled to play in.
