I think it's not uncommon for wide receivers to have outsized egos and to act oddly. Terrell Owens. Ocho Cinco. Antonio Brown, ODBJr., Joe Horn, Randy Moss, George Pickens, Stefon Diggs. You could go all the way back to Peter Gent (author of
North Dallas Forty).
That doesn't even include the WRs who've been arrested like Michael Irvin, Jimmy Smith, Chris Henry, TItus Young, Justin Blackmon, Donte Stallworth, Sam Hurd, Plaxico Burress, Henry Ruggs, Rae Carruth, Zay Jones, MIchael Floyd, Josh Gordon, Dwayne Bowe, Kenny Britt, Rashee Rice, Jordan Addison, Xavier Worthy, Kadarius TOney, Alshon Jeffery, Ted Ginn Jr., Mark Duper, Andre RIson, Tyreek Hill, Brandon Marshall, Dez Bryant.
My read: Aiyuk may be acting irrationally from a career-management standpoint, but that is not evidence of CTE. Plenty of players make bizarre business decisions without brain disease. In his case, the cleaner explanation is: injured star receiver, massive contract dispute, damaged relationship with team, public ego battle, and maybe no adult in the room saying, “Brandon, for the love of Jerry Rice, put the phone down.”
