I am maybe the last one on earth to read about this (it was in the Chronicle today), but apparently Johnny Dawkins is trying to incarcerate Christian Laettner (now a D-league coach) & Brian Davis to help him collect on something like $650,000 due to some losses tied to real estate deals.  Dawkins' lawyer (a Stanford grad)  filed a motion to put them behind bars but it was denied.  The trial to recover the money seems to be ongoing.  So much for the "Coach K family" and "Duke fraternity"!    I am sure some Palo Alto financial advisors are also thinking twice about taking Johnny Dawkins' account.

Wouldn't you play legal hardball if you'd lent money for a business venture, and the debtor was ordered by a court to pay you back but failed to do so? Especially if you suspected that the debtor had enough assets to pay you, but was refusing to provide information about his assets and liabilities? I know that I would.

I wasn't blaming Dawkins (it would be hard to without more facts).  I do see it as a black eye for Duke, which I am sure likes to cite the business value of their degree, tight-knitness of their community, etc.  I also thought it was somewhat funny that the basis for  Laettner & Davis' real estate investments was their belief that Raleigh-Durham needed more apartments with high ceilings, as that was something they struggled with while on campus.
