I gave this message a -1 for its content but then realized this is an indirect shooting of the messenger so I reversed fields to zero it out...and ended up with a plus one, which doesn't capture my feelings about this update. Anyway...thanks for the news; wish it were better.

Here's a report indicating the injury is to DeCastro's ACL and MCL, with obvious speculation that he misses the season. I don't know if this is really news, because I can't imagine there's been an MRI yet, but it's devastating nonetheless.

Please clear the field! The game is not over!

I wondered if DeCastro had his degree, and apparently he actually graduated in December 2011. GoStanford listed his major as management science and engineering.

But, yeah, this is really, really depressing news for a guy with all-world talent - truly, imo, one of the most talented football players ever to attend Stanford.

From the article: [Update: He at least has a torn MCL, which would be a minimum of 8 games missed. If it is confirmed that the ACL has a tear as well he will be done for the season] Bummer.

ESPN reporting DeCastro has dislocated knee cap and torn MCL. ACL was not torn. So he could be out 2 months and not be forced to miss the whole season. Then again, the Steelers could shelve him for the year too if they would rather not rush him back. Tough call for the team for sure.

Quote:LOSER: FieldTurf -- We're in no position to judge whether or not the popular artificial surface is better than a grass field, but we do know that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is not a fan of the fake stuff. After Pittsburgh first-round rookie guard David DeCastro went down with a serious knee injury (torn MCL, dislocated knee cap, damage to his patellar tendon) Saturday night in a win at Buffalo, Roethlisberger went on the NFL Network and said FieldTurf was "just killing guys because they can't get their feet out of the ground, and it's just another reason we should get rid of FieldTurf.'' Alrighty then. How much advertising will the folks at FieldTurf have to crank out to counter Big Ben's testimonial?
Winners and losers in preseason week 3.

Peter King weighs in on the impact this has on the Steelers.
Link here.
Quote:7. The Steelers get a bad, bad injury. One of the best guards to come out of college football in years, David DeCastro was playing like a five-year vet for Pittsburgh in the preseason. Now he's out, likely for the year, with a torn MCL and dislocated kneecap suffered Saturday night in Buffalo. The Steelers drafted DeCastro first and tackle Mike Adams (who has been poor in preseason tests) second in April, and now they may get zilch out of both this season. Left to right, the Steeler front looks like Max Starks, Willie Colon, Maurkice Pouncey, Ramon Foster and Marcus Gilbert ... not exactly the retooled lined they had in mind in the spring.

I think one of Kyle Bonagura's recent tweets mentioned that DeCastro would be having surgery tomorrow.
