Julius Barnes was one of my favorite players of that era. He would jump so high on his jump shots. I swear, he was releasing the ball level with the rim on his shot. He had some great highlights.

Anyway, the turning point of that game was Nate James going up for a dunk and getting completely rejected by a Stanford guy who appeared out of nowhere. The announcers initially called it as a rejection by one of the Collins twins. And then on the replay, they were like, "Wait, that was LITTLE Julius Barnes!!!" Julius went on to lead us to a brobdingnagian come-from-a-ton-behind victory. Thanks for that video link, Good Grief. I remember that amazing comeback versus Duke at, of all things, the Pete Newell Challenge, but had forgotten Julius Barnes' role in it. I also recall reading the LA Times sports section the next day and seeing a photo of Tiger Woods (back when he was, you know, Tiger Woods) getting airborne in a leap of joy just after Jacobsen's banker fell through. Glory days indeed!
Ahh, Julius, I loved that guy.

If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
