I know we ran up big offensive stats. I know U$ had a good defense. But Stanford hasn't scored 10 or fewer points in a football game since 11/3/07, Idiotface's last year as a coach. Four games that year they scored less than 10 points.
Mick, you are talking about the Washington game in Harbaugh's first season. I was at that game. Pretty desultory experience. The enthusiasm from the U$ upset a month prior had faded. Stanford scored 10 points or fewer in three games that season. This was a significant improvement over the 2006 season when Stanford scored 10 points or fewer in
9 of the 12 games.
Stanford does have offensive problems, but nowhere near the level experienced in 2006 and to some extent in 2007.
Here is a stat that should concern the coaches (credit to Kyle Bonagura) - Over first two games, Stanford has converted 2 of 12 third downs when inside opponents 40. 8 for 11 on third down on rest of the field.

That must be entirely due to execution errors. I have it on good authority that it is not related to play calling.

CornFed - is that a serious or facetious comment? Some CardBoarders have strong feelings about the play calling. Perhaps you are one of them or perhaps you are teasing them. It is hard to tell whether or not you are speaking tongue in cheek.Â
I had no problem (for the most part) with the play calling. The results of course are another matter. Still, do folks think it is significant that Pep Hamilton was the OC when Hogan's Red Zone success rate was 100% (in 2012) vs. the mediocre levels (or worse) since Hamilton left? Or is this correlation without causation?

I think I'm just frustrated. I have checked myself and hope my reaction to the play calling is not all hindsight. Garvin and others posts give me serious pause in that regard. I know that in real time (watching by myself) when they lined up to go for it on fourth at the goal line I audibly reacted,"Oh no!!" But I would admit that a great deal of that was related to the fact that my "dread" factor had been triggered and the game dynamics were feeling crummy. Like Utah, SC from last year. Like Washington the year before. Like it was for the opening kickoff in the old days. (Joking!)
It would be my hope and expectation that Shaw does not have that trigger in his brain. And I for one am very uncomfortable with anecdotal evidence. And, honestly, there are only a few individual calls that make my stomach acid flare up. He'd probably like to have those back as well.
But there is something going on when we're on the opponent's end of the field that doesn't feel like we're in charge. Play calling may be the wrong focus. Maybe it's execution, which hopefully can be fixed.Â
Whatever it is, please Shaw fix it. Saturday has left a taste in my mouth like I've been chewing on dung beetles!
