I count 15 recruits that I guess(?) have signed the new contract agreement that replaces the good ole NLI.

QB Bear Bachmeier not among them.

Since it is 8AM West Coast time as I write this I assume it is a little early for Bear.

I'm hoping Bironas is as good as his father. Kicking has been crucial for getting some wins these last few years, and we will need to continue having a reliable kicker to follow Ukropina, Toner, Karty, and Kenney.

Notes on new players:

Adam Shovlin DE -- Played at the varsity level for five years at three different high schools (Pittston Area, St. Thomas More, The Lawrenceville School).  Seems like a football nomad that will hit the portal pretty quickly if he gets the notion.

Liam Thorpe WR -- A three-sport athlete in high school, also played lacrosse and ran track.  Broke out for 1,031 receiving yards as a senior on 41 receptions, with seven touchdowns.  Also, played both ways all 4 years of HS.

KOLE BRIEHLER DT --  In his senior season, totaled 52 tackles (29 solo), 21 tackles-for-loss, nine sacks and two forced fumbles.

MICKEY VACCARELLO OLB --  Amassed over 200 tackles during his final two seasons with 21 sacks and a pair of interceptions returned for a touchdown…compiled 22 tackles for loss.  "Yo Mickey!"

CHRIS GARLAND CB -- Totaled 43 tackles (23 solo), four interceptions and six passes defended in his senior season.

JONANTHONY HALL WR --  Totaled 2,625 receiving yards on 163 receptions, recording 23 receiving touchdowns and 28 total touchdowns.  A unanimous four-star recruit, ranked as a top-50 national wide receiver recruit by 247Sports, on3 and ESPN.  The No. 1 wide receiver recruit in Indiana by ESPN and on3.

OMARI GAINES S -- Totaled 51 tackles, six touchdowns, two tackles-for-loss, a fumble recovery and four interceptions during his senior campaign.

JOSH WILLIAMS OG -- The top-ranked offensive lineman recruit in the state of Pennsylvania according to ESPN and on3.  A four-sport athlete in high school, also competed in track and field, basketball, and weightlifting. Did not allow a sack during his final two seasons of high school. Played on the defensive line as a senior and added a sack and three tackles for loss.

LONNIE MCALLISTER III NB -- Ranked as the No. 1 nickel/cornerback recruit in Washington, D.C. by ESPN and on3.

REIMAN ZEBERT TE -- 6'6" 220 lbs.  Compiled 66 receptions for 1,227 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns during his three seasons of HS football.

LONDON BIRONAS K -- Averaged 45.2 yards per punt, 38-of-41 on touchbacks and 7-of-11 on field goal in the 2023 season.

EMEKA UGORJI OT -- One of the top offensive linemen recruits in the nation, ranked as high as No. 67 by on3.  Offensive Lineman MVP at the Under Armour All-American NEXT Dallas Camp in 2023.

NUSI TAUMOEPEAU LB -- Compiled over 130 total tackles with 16 sacks in three seasons.
Put up some of the best defensive numbers in the state of Utah as a senior with 88 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks.  Saw time at running back during his senior campaign and rushed for 361 yards and eight touchdowns on just 37 carries.  Maybe he becomes the short yardage Lamson replacement.

ZACH GIULIANO TE -- In his high school football career at Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach totaled 774 yards on 83 receptions for 15 touchdowns.

LANDON MCCOMBER ILB -- Ranked as the top inside linebacker prospect in the state of Nevada by ESPN.  Despite missing his junior season, amassed over 100 tackles with a pair of defensive touchdowns (one interception return and one fumble return).

ZAK YAMAUCHI OG -- At offensive guard, ranked as the top prospect in Nevada by ESPN and on3.  Led Bishop Gorman to two Nevada state championships.

DONTE UTU S -- Amassed nearly 140 tackles during his final two high school seasons at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, with seven interceptions, 14 pass breakups and a pair of forced fumbles.  Spent time on both sides of the ball as a senior and added 12 receptions for 116 yards and three touchdowns.

BEAR BACHMEIER QB -- Totaled 6,463 yards in his high school career, alongside 56 touchdowns and 30 rushing touchdowns.  Two-time all-CIF-SS (2022, 2023 seasons). We're loaded for Bear!

Taylor said they are working with 11 transfers to recruit and get them admitted mid-year.

RE: It’s Football signing day - MV72018 - 12-04-2024

I saw just a few offensive and defensive linemen among the new signees. Apparently any significant infusion of OL and DL talent will come from the group of 11 being pursued to enter via the portal.

2 of our 4 OL recruits decommited.

To go where, and how strong were they?

I hate that this is just a part of doing business in college football today.  I support players' right to transfer, just as I do any student.  But there is a real problem when Stanford might take 25 transfers through regular pathways, and half that number just for football.  like, are we pretending that this is anything other than "free agency" any more?

I haven't been following football recruiting so I'm in the dark on the timeline for this.  Does mid-year mean summer 2025 to play in the upcoming 2025 season?  If that's the plan it doesn't seem feasible for a couple reasons.  Main reason why would these recruits wait until the last minute to see if they will be admitted rather than accept an offer at some other school they know will be honored without jumping through admissions hoops.

Does Taylor have any indication from admissions they will accept football recruits with average GPA and test scores? I recall Harbaugh going into an extended rant his first year about so many of his recruits being rejected by admissons.

"Mid-year" = winter quarter admission. They would start in a month.

No, nobody is pretending it is anything other than free agency. The "working with" statement could mean many things. It could mean that some of these transfers are undecided. It could also mean they are not yet "admitted". Some of them could also be grad transfers. A bit of uncertainty remains. If Stanford admits 11 undergraduate transfers for football alone I will be very surprised. The number of transfers this year may be more than 25. It could be double that. Still, athletes being 22% of the transfer class would be "high". Not crazy high, but atypical. One also has to consider transfers in other sports.

for 2023-24 Stanford admitted 67 transfers and enrolled 58, which is an increase from the recent past when the number was as you recalled ~25 (and in some year 10-15).  This total only includes students enrolling for the Fall quarter so transfers in other quarters should be added to this total

https://ucomm.stanford.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/15/2024/07/stanford-cds-2023_2024_final_v2.pdf

and the "official" transfer dates appear to be

- applied ~3/15
- notified ~5/15
- reply date ~6/1

https://admission.stanford.edu/apply/transfer/index.html

which would not seem to apply for most athlete transfers.

back in the day (when I transferred in) my class (class of '82, I transferred in fall of 1979) ended up with ~200 transfers in total so a little over 10% of total '82 undergraduates (~1800), most appeared to arrive between winter quarter of their frosh year (so yes one quarter elsewhere (so I'm guessing a "late" acceptance as a transfer) through the beginning of junior year).  I don't know what the transfer out rate was then.

The transfer numbers bounce around a lot, depending on a host of factors.  But I do wonder if the recent numbers are inflated due to trends in the number of transfer athletes admitted (football, of course, but women's basketball had two, and I am sure others did too).

Regardless, since athletes make up 12% of the student body, you would expect that proportionally you'd wind up with around 7/62 transfers being athletes.

the numbers above were transfers enrolling in Fall 2023 so would not include those enrolling in winter or spring and Taylor's 11 targets appear to be targeted for Jan enrollment so likely would not show up in the common data set as a transfer for either 2024-25 or 2025-26.  I would also guess that many transfer athletes enroll in summer quarter at the latest which would also seem to exclude them from being reported as transfers in the common data set
