He looked to be calling a double-dribble on OSU, but no whistle and play continued.
I'm not quite sure which play you are talking about here. Most likely you saw an official signal loss of control by the ball handler. It is similar to a double dribble signal except the palms are up, not down. To me, the signal evokes juggling the ball. (Neither of those signals are in the rule book.)
After loss of control ("interrupted dribble") when another player(either team) touches the ball, a player may dribble again.

Yes, that was bizarre. I saw the other girl tip the pass. It might have touched Hannah after it was tipped and before it passed over the center court line. Does that make it a back court violation?
There are conflicting rules (Rule 9, Section 12) for a similar situation but not for this one. I checked the Case Book but it doesn't adjudicate this ambiguity.
Quote:Art. 4. A player shall not be the first to touch the ball in their backcourt (with
any part of their body, voluntarily or involuntarily) when the ball came from
the frontcourt while that player’s team was in team control and that player or
their teammate was the last to touch the ball before it went into the backcourt.
Art. 5. A pass in the frontcourt that is deflected by a defensive player so that the
ball goes into the backcourt may be recovered by either team.
If the ball was deflected by a defensive player during a pass, and the deflection went off Jump, the situation would be covered by both 9-12.4 and 9-12.5. However, an attempted steal is not covered by 9-12.5.
In this case, 9-12.4 applies since the ball brushed Jump's forearm while in the front court just before going into the backcourt. It is a backcourt violation.

Thanks so much for posting this. It's a terrific interview, really gave me insight into both Cam and where she comes from. And at the end, the bit about how she's somewhat banged up from the Cal game, having to ice her back and elbow, not info that Tara would share.
I'd suggest, if you have the time, give this a listen. Really worthwhile. Again, thanks
Crackpot.
Thanks! H/T to the Chronicle's Marisa Ingemi for the heads-up. She was interviewed by the same guy, but I caught very little of that one. LOVED hearing Cam's mom's perspective!

This reminded me of a play in the play in the Cal game that I meant to ask about. It was the Cam hustle play to keep the ball from going out of bounds. She tipped it from the front court to Hannah in the back court but it wasn't called an over and back. Stanford had possession the entire time. The announcers were busy talking about the hustle play but Charmin Smith was in the ref's ear. Right after that Cam was clearly fouled and lost possession but there was no call by the ref. I was wondering if that was a make-up call. Does anybody else remember that sequence?
Cheers,

YES! I spent a ton of time looking for this yesterday and couldn't find it. I'd written down "close to the 6 minute mark of Q2" in a note to myself, but I thought I must be mistaken. That was very confusing AND impressive as all get out!

I can imagine a report about Cam having to ice her elbow would be fodder for an opponent’s locker room.

I agree. Let our team prove that Juju's 53 points was a fluke.
51
The concept of a 51-point "fluke" is hilarious.

Cal game Q2 6:26. It was a correct call. No backcourt. On an offensive rebound, Brink tapped it away from the lane, then chased it down and tapped it just before it went out of bounds to Jump in the back court. Once the ball leaves the hand of a shooter, there is no team control until a player gains control. Tapping a rebound is specifically covered. We did not have team control after the shot went up until Jump got it in the backcourt.

Awesome! And thanks for the explanation.
