He deserves a lot of credit for this great win. And we had 25 players out with injuries!!! (I think TT said that in his post-game press conference.)

The players gave him the game ball.

I don’t think the fourth and 11 with 10 seconds was egregious, though they probably should have thrown it underneath to try to pick up a first down and kick the field goal.  The way I look at it is that 4th and 11 with 10 seconds from the opponents 45 was a better position that 1st and 10 with 5 seconds left from your own 45.  And if you are Louisville, don’t you want a chance to end it in regulation?  The penalties were inexcusable, but I don’t think the decision to go for it was.

What a classy thing to do!!! Good on them!

Well, that is one fine prediction, Marty.  But can you believe JJJ nailed the score exactly?  That is incredible.

It was well past midnight over here when I finally gave up on the game.  It was 35-28 Louisville with six minutes and change left.  The way Louisville had been tearing through our defense, I was thinking 42-28 Cardinals as a final result, though I still had not given up all hope.  What a pleasant surprise to see the 38-35 final result this morning.  Yes, this season has been a major disappointment, but I am very happy for the players and the joy they all experienced for simply not giving up and being on the favorable end of some unexpected luck (i.e., 20 yards of field position with 4 seconds on the clock).  The sparse crowd in the stands was obviously disappointing; but that seems to be our new reality.

We could theoretically close out this season at 5-7; and it would be wonderful to deny Cal bowl eligibility next week in Memorial stadium.  The Bears will certainly be favored; but we have a shot at getting the axe back.  Mosley's performance yesterday was a revelation.  Daniels appears to be hitting his stride.  The defense has shown they can come up big when it matters.  Everything's possible.

I sort of expected to be leaving at half-time of a beat-down. Instead, I ended up high-fiving friends and strangers in the stands as Stanford pulled off an amazing fourth quarter comeback. Wow, so much fun!

All right now!

We were cracking up about the folks who left at halftime. Haven't had this much fun in years.

Also, instead of the fans rushing the field it was more like a slow ooze. Still, can't remember the last time there was that much joy in Stanford Stadium.

The only time I can remember rushing our field is the 2012 victory over then #2 USC.  50,000+ attendance.
Significant drop in attendance at home games (other than USC or Big Game) seems to have started in 2018.

How quickly you forget.

2013 - #3 Oregon vs #5 Stanford, on Thursday night, national TV.  Without question the most consequential game ever played in the new stadium.

2015 - Notre Dame vs Christian McCaffrey.  I remember shaking Bill Ukropina's hand (along with everyone else) while heading down onto the field.

2021 - beating Oregon in OT (they were ranked #3 again, although it was early in the season).

Yesterday made my season ticket all worthwhile.  Yes, I attended all six home games this year.

What was the last time Stanford scored on the final play for a walk-off win at home? Was it the Notre Dame game in 2015?

I'm not sure, but every time we put that TE in his side stepping motion we didn't use him to block.  I guess he was supposed to be a decoy.  I would have liked to see us run off tackle behind him.

Agree.  Not surprised they went for it.  I was expecting something about 10 yards from LOS in the middle of field.

Let's face it, the Cardinals coug'd it.

Don't forget they took their last time out before the play, and there were only about 11 or 12 seconds left. If they had gone over the middle of the field, I doubt they would have been able to get their kicking team on the field even with the clock stopping to reset the chains.

RE: FB -- STANFORD 38 -- LOUISVILLE 35 - martyup - 11-17-2024

Speaking of coug'n it, last night Wazzu got beat by New Mexico with exactly the same score as our game -- 35-38.  It was only Wazzu's second loss of the season and certainly dashed any hopes they had for a chance at the playoffs.

RE: FB -- STANFORD 38 -- LOUISVILLE 35 - Row80Critic - 11-17-2024

Sure, it was a series of highly improbable breaks that got them there, but after being on the other side of those breaks sooooo many times in past years, they were due.  That's about the happiest I've been in Stanford Stadium since the end of the 2015 ND game.  The game meant nothing in the big picture, but still meant everything.  And it looks like Stanford has 2 future NFL receivers now. Daniels is still too slow to pick a target, but I'd say that was one of his best games from an accuracy perspective.

They would have spiked the football to stop the clock.

if that was a wing t, than troy taylor is innovating! i suppose you could say david shaw was innovative by introducing the slow mesh, but tt is adding an up-to-date pro offense, which the slow mesh surely was not.

for those of you who don't get the times, the article says the value of the offense is surprise: it's harder for the defense to guess where the ball is going on run plays. this might help the problem we have had running into the teeth of the defense when they are expecting run.

For sure one of Daniels best games. Possibly it represents an epiphany, but I doubt it. He was accurate yesterday. Will that continue at a high level? Seems improbable, but who knows? His decision making still left something to improve upon. In fairness to Daniels it was pretty clear Louisville had decided that containing him in the pocket was important. His long runs from the previous games were not there in this one. He did get one fairly long run based on great effort carrying half of the defense on his back. To his credit, he did the job in the pocket better than usual. He was still too slow in getting rid of the ball in some cases, but he didn't make bad decisions and throw a lot of picks.

Stanford seemed to perform better IMO when we moved the pocket. Daniels seemed to handle it well and didn't get stuck in a position where his vision was blocked, he was under pressure immediately and he couldn't really get a pass off. Yesterday Kal's defensive line was pretty ineffective, but I don't expect they will be that bad next week.

That said, many of us wanted to see what Brown could do. The fact we haven't worries me a bit. It wasn't a matter of preserving his shirt, he could have played in four games. There may be good reasons for this. Maybe we see him in the next two. Possibly the staff has decided that he won't be effective with the OL we have. That problem hasn't gone away. There are other possibilities, most of which are "bad".

He has played in 3 games already (Cal Poly, SMU, Wake). It very much is a matter of preserving his shirt.
