So...what time will the game be stateside with the longitudinal difference? Also, are we sure that there won't be any other CFB games? I seem to remember late August CFP games from the last two seasons.
As far as national exposure goes, we'll get enough TV time if the team performs well during the bowl game and earns a nice national pre-season ranking. There's nothing like in-person face time with recruits when you play an away game in a talent-rich state.

This year's Cal/Hawaii game was played at 7 pm Pacific on Friday August 26th (Pacific). It would have been about noon on Saturday in Australia. It was the only game played that week end, though a few teams played the following Thursday.
If it were up to me, I'd love to see the game played at 4 pm Pacific on a Saturday (Sunday in Australia), but that's a 9 am local time start. Perhaps somewhere in between?

Given the way Cal-Hawaii played out last year, that might not be a good thing. I didn't watch it (or watch much of it, at any rate) but supposedly the announcers weren't actually there and didÂ
horrible job. I suppose that doesn't reflect badly on us, but I'd rather not play in a game mostly remembered for ESPN botching it.

Wait so like the announcers were back in the US and just watching the footage and commentating there? So basically the universities have to pay to send everyone halfway around the world, but the large sports broadcasting corporation can't spare the dollars?

I wouldn't mind getting the local Aussie types to cover the game.
Australians get NFL games and, like fans in England, have their own studio experts that talk about the game when the Americans are busy watching commercials. So they have people in Australia that could make it work.Â
Those local (national) commentators would be much more excited about the opportunity, would be in the stadium and probably would bother to learn the names of the players and coaches.
Then give those guys votes for the Voldemort since they will have watched 1 more Pac-12 game than most of the voting media in the USA.

Another benefit is that it forces our bye week to later in the season. Taking a look at Cal's schedule, they had the week off following the Australia trip, but then they had another bye in mid-October. That would be much better than how things worked for us this season.

Looks to me like the only options in Week 2 for Stanford are a Bye week or a conference game at U.SC. U.SC is the only conference opponent that does not have a game already lined up for Sept 9.Â
So the best we can hope for in a schedule could be 3 consecutive road games to open the season (@Sydney vs. Rice, @ U.SC, @ San Diego State) with a bye later in the season, perhaps in association with a Thursday or Friday night game.

well if that happens the students will get to see a larger than normal number of home games in 2017...
likely schedule so far
- Aug 26 @Rice in Australia (Sept 02 if in Houston)
- Sept 09 @USCÂ
- Sept 16 @SDSUÂ
Â
- bunch of other games
- Nov 18 vs Cal
- Nov 25 vs ND

They wouldn't really be in a row, though, because the Rice game would be a week early, meaning we'd get a week off before going to USC. Which would actually be great, we'd get to see the team in live action then get two weeks to prep for what will likely be the biggest road game of the season, and perhaps the biggest aside from Washington.
