RE: WBB: Stanford @ Indiana, Sun 11am; preview and game thread - 81alum - 11-17-2024

The defense has not been there the whole first half.  The offense abandoned us too in the 2nd quarter.  Indiana is hitting its threes and making its drives.  Our offense looks labored.

Our offense did not look great against Davis, but I am surprised that Kate did not have us more ready on defense.  A young team that is a work in progress.  At least we hope for progress.

We did better in the 2nd Q on D, holding IND to 18.  However, our offense shit the bed and only scored 9 points.  We trail by 11 at the half.

We gave up 6 threes to IND in the first half, and we only made 2-6.  That difference accounts for all of IND's lead.

Although Heal and Stevenson scored our last 2 points, their presence on the court has hurt us IMO.

Heal didn't score

No matter the final outcome, this is the type of game that will be a valuable learning experience for our team.  Playing in a hostile loud gym thousands of miles away from home against an aggressive well coached opponent will prepare this team for the most important games they will play -- at the NCAA tourney.

Having read the thread commentary, but not watching the score, I was expecting us to be down by 30, LOL! 11 points is well within reach. Hopefully KP knows how to make halftime adjustments as well as Tara did, and we can settle down in the second half. No matter the outcome, this is a great test game for a young team, so I'm glad we're getting a game like this out of our system early.

I'd like to see something positive from Bosgana in the second half.

Nunu may need to get it in the block and pass out to a three point shooter. Our three point shooters have not been open--the Indiana defense is quite good.

Heal is used to getting lots of fouls called her way whenever she drives on the basket.  This year she almost never gets such fouls called.  Welcome to the big league.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Indiana, Sun 11am; preview and game thread - martyup - 11-17-2024

I can't believe Bosgana has zero points and only 1 rebound, zero assists, and zero fouls.  She's been very active on the floor and does have one steal.

4th foul called on Meister in the first few seconds of the second half.

For some reason, the stats now show Demetre only has 2 fouls.
As I typed that, Brooke picked up her 3rd foul.

Clardy with two great defensive plays.  She needs more minutes.

4 layups by their 5'7 guard

A hundred times this. Thank you for the reminder!

Seriously, Stevenson needs to be cheering from the bench.  She's hurting us badly.

out of country so Hulu doesn't work - therefore using ESPNW play-by-play plus Stanford Audio. If anyone has streaming suggestions for me to get FS1 which I usually get via Hulu, bring them on please! NVM, think I do not want to see this.

Our offense is still in the locker room.  Halfway through the 3r Q and we've scored 5 points.

Well, when you have lost your three best scorers and haven't added any Juju Watkins types to your roster, I suppose that's to be expected.

Sadly we have gone from a great three shooting team to a team that can’t even get a three shot off.

Ah yes a learning experience. Thanks Marty

Don't bother.  You don't want to watch this game. It's ugly and getting uglier.

How stupid have we become as a species?  I just watched a commercial with a bunch of fat people line dancing to "You make me feel like dancing."  The product?  A pill to lose weight.

We trail by 17 at the end of the 3rd Q.

In the words of Chick Hearn, "This game's in the refrigerator, the door's closed, the light's out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard and the Jell-O's jiggling."

Poor shooting, poor defense.   No one can create their own shot.   Ogden should be playing more.   She needs to not foul so much, so she can be on the floor more.   I’d rather see Clardy starting than Lepolo.  She does not guard well and cannot shoot.   Clardy, at least can shoot and is more aggressive guarding people.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Indiana, Sun 11am; preview and game thread - martyup - 11-17-2024

Now we don't deserve to be ranked in the top 25.

Bogana’s shooting is horrible.  Why does she keep her in there.  Just throwing the ball up.  Try Petersen.   Someone that can shoot.

Talk about "being exposed." Agara is our only potent O threat, Ogden a minor one. Lepolo and Bosgana might as well not be playing (shooting a combined 1 for 11), Harriel not much better. I hope this does not prove a preview of how we play against good teams for the rest of the season. Up until now, our opponents did not play much aggressive D. Looked at candidly, we seem to lack real fire power against good teams. We'll be a lot better next year with a point guard who can break down a D and finish or dish, not just pass it around the perimeter. Question: are we running plays that are getting us good shots and just missing them, or are we not getting good looks?

We are shooting 38% from the field, Indiana 50%. SU: 2 for 11 from deep. Indiana: 9 for 18! Ouch! Not going to cut it.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Indiana, Sun 11am; preview and game thread - mbdude - 11-17-2024

lepolo's player another 3. leopolo 1 rebound, 0bpts , 0 assists , 0 defense in quite a few minutes
