RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - Hurlburt88 - 05-25-2026

I really enjoy watching not only C. Brink but also Nneka, Lexie, & Alanna Smith.  I do think Cameron is still finding her balance after focusing on ACL recovery last year, and I feel like she will really put things together this year.  I also wonder as the season progresses how much the Sparks will use Brink and Nneka together.

I've been salivating for a Nneka/Cam lineup ever since Nneka said she was coming back to the Sparks.

Looks like it was Brink vs. Iriafen as LA played Washington.

https://x.com/chrislapuma/status/2060565780794835357?s=61

FWIW, in her last three games, Brink has averaged 15 ppg, 5 rpg, 1.3 Brinks per game, and 1.7 made 3 pters per game.

Nadia Fingall has been signed to a "rest of season" contract with the Valkyries (of course, they'd done that to Ash, too, 'til they waived her and signed her as a development player). But cool!

I believe this is the replacement vet minimum contract for Rupert who's out on pregnancy leave.

I suspect they will keep Ash and Saweh on their dev contracts. We really need a traditional two way post player and watching Nadia's Zaragoza highlights, I'm really hopeful she can give us some useful minutes, both for her sake and ours. We are just getting killed in the paint a lot of games.

Wow. I don't recall Fingall being big enuf, or quick enuf, to battle bigs under the basket, which is what the Vals need. She does appear to shoot the 3 now, however, which the V's like.

Someone on our Valks Reddit posted a really helpful highlights tape from her last season in Zaragoza. She does plenty of battling in the paint throughout, although you're right - she also has the shooters touch to go much farther out to three.

Nice column on Brink and her foul problems.

I think Eschmeyer is a better blocker than Brink -- certainly at this stage in their careers.  She always stays vertical when blocking, and has excellent body control. I'm excitied that she decided to stay and am looking forward to watching her play, with more playing time, and hopefully a better offensive scheme.

Uh, Brink broke the school's all-time single-season blocks record as a freshman. Alex finished with nearly half as many blocks (88 vs. 43). And lest you think Brink fouled more to accomplish that, they were essentially identical in fouls per game (2.5 vs. 2.4).

But I admire the homer enthusiasm!

Agreed, I'm hoping AE gets to be better than CB, but, for now, I don't think it's close. There's a reason we refer to blocks as Brinks.

It's not a stat but how many less opportunities did Brink have to block a shot because opponents knew not to challenge her?

I don't think Alex is at the stage where players will avoid going at her because they fear getting their shot rejected.

RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - Hurlburt88 - 06-14-2026

Last night CB had a great 3 point shot made through contact . . . just one play illustrating all that talent.  I'll be a total optimist on her continued WNBA development & journey.

I haven’t been able to view the Sparks much, but I don’t understand a stat line where Brink takes 4 shots and they are all threes.

But she controlled her fouls and turnovers in this game as a big positive.

In other news:
- Smith having a rough season in Dallas. Stats and playing time are from down to way down.
- Nneka having an excellent season with the Sparks. 16.2 pts / 9.2 rebounds per game. Still elite.
- Kiki having another very good year so far for the Mystics. 14.6 pts / 8.9 rebounds per game.
- Lexie ok for the Fever. She is an excellent glue player, but somehow she needs to be more than just a mostly passive and stationary 3 point shooter/backdoor cutter on offense. Also the Fever’s extreme switching on defense somewhat limits her impact. 5.9 / 4.2 for the season.
- Jones remains unemployed after being cut by Portland. Bizarre guard/SF stat - hit 0 shots this season beyond 8 feet which largely explains why she was cut after 5 games..
- Karlie back from a long term injury, playing some now with Portland. 3.0 ppg.

Add anybody I missed….

RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - Nobadeer - 06-14-2026

K. Williams in a limited role for Phx, ~ 13 minutes per game, ~ 5 pts per game, 9 of 25 on threes so far.

I'll be at Chase Ctr tomorrow night for GSV vs. LAS. Looking forward to seeing Ogwumike and Brink.

RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - Spiny_Norman - 06-14-2026

Dijonai Carrington graduated from Stanford so I think she should be considered in discussion of alumni in the WNBA. Alas, she is injured and has not played yet this season for the Chicago Sky.

RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - fullmetal - 06-14-2026

The Sky are a snakebit organization (of their own making) after having traded away Angel Reese and failed to acquire young talent.  Instead, they have...aging injured players (not just Carrington).  Foolish front office.

I still can't get over that they got rid of Teresa Weatherspoon as coach, either.

RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - Card10Fan - 06-14-2026

Nadia Fingall just got picked up and is on the Valkyries roster. Ashten Precthel is on a development contract with the Valkyries so she often sits on the bench.

Kiana Williams was cut by Phoenix and has not been picked up by another team so her and Haley Jones are in the same boat.

Most surprising is Smith. She was starter and glue player for the Lynx last year in their successful season of getting to the WNBA finals.

I think some of Smith's reduced time and scoring is due to a broken nose she suffered early in the season requiring a mask that she doesn't like. She plays when Dallas needs defense, and looks just fine on O. Dallas is a good and interesting team. I would expect her numbers to increase.

The nose didn’t help but at this point it doesn’t appear to be the story. Smith got pulled from the starting lineup and her last 5 games total only 74 minutes, 15 points and 16 rebounds. So a 5 game avg of 14.8 mpg / 3 ppg / 3.2 rpg. Not sure if this highlights the risks of leaving a good situation, lack of timing from the injury or something else.
