Really, it's high time that the NFL simply enacts a rule change stipulating that all Stanford players automatically become Indianapolis Colts.

Nothing against Martin, but just looking at this purely from a business standpoint, I wouldn't trade more than a 5th or 6th for him, and I would try to see if I could get Miami to eat part of his contract, although relatively low since he is a rookie. Just looking at him on paper, he was looking like he would be demoted, abruptly left his team, and is in a position where everyone expects him to sue his team for hostile work environment. Hiring him would be analagous to hiring the VP who was underperforming, quit, and is about to sue his former company. Whether or not he is talented, whether or not Miami and Incognito were completely at fault, it is a risk that most teams do not have to take. Most of us would not take that risk in business, even if the VP were a Stanford grad.

Apologies to Tyler for hijacking this thread with a post about Martin. I really wish Tyler well in the NFL. He would look good in Eagle green! He is a stud for coming back to play ball for Stanford, and was a warrior on the field. I actually met him at Disney, and he was a heck of a nice young man as well.

I understand what you are saying, but the NFL is replete with examples of guys who were castoff or looked like they were discontents or toxic and were taken for a song by an opportunistic team. Mr. Hoodie is a master at identifying guys who can play but for whatever reason were poor fits at their old club (look at LeGarrette Blount; he was a poor fit for Tampa Bay and was traded for Jeff Demps and a 7th round selection, and carried the Pats during the playoffs). In the days of salary caps, this is one way to build a championship team.
