Nice to see Shay bring a spark. Now throw the rest of the freshmen in there to get this experience. This crowd is nuts, and the refs not much better.

This game has sure dampened my excitement from our football team's upset of Louisville yesterday.

Who is the “go to” player on this team?   Agara’s footwork needs to better, or she should get better position so she is closer to the basket.

I'm not sure we have one. But if we do, it's Agara.

Coming into this season, most people didn't expect much from this team.  The first 4 games were a pleasant surprise.  This game is more in alignment with the pre-season expectations.  We have an excellent recruiting class coming in next season.  Hopefully we will play better than this as the season progresses and our returning players will be gain the experience needed to lead our team next season to a deep run in the tournament and a NC in KP's third season.

What’s the over/under on number of games before Agara starts at least glancing at, if not seriously studying, the portal?

Lepolo and Bosgana might be starters, but I think we will see others get more minutes if they are more productive.  Ogden, Clardy and Shay are better options right now.  At least they can all shoot, or create disruption.

Clardy is proving she belongs on the floor at the opening tip.

With the recruiting class coming in, she'd be wise to stick around.

At lease we won the 4th Q.

A hundred times this. Thank you for the reminder!

Playoffs?  PLAYOFFS!!?!??

If we do make it to post season, I hope we don’t have to play Harvard…

Demetre looked very good.  Don't understand why no one on this thread has mentioned her.

But it sure seems that we are simply not as good as our record indicated, and Indiana was not as bad as their record indicated.  There is also a fair bit of "live by the three and die by the three" going on.  Our earlier success was set up by hot three point shooting, and in the last two games we did not start out hot from three and the entire offense became anemic.   Only 9 assists for the game, similar to UC Davis.

My greatest disappointment today was with our defense.  We let Indiana play very pretty basketball.

Indiana has something to do with their own victory, of course, cutting turnovers from 20 to 5 and dramatically upping their shooting accuracy.

We have had some rough losses early in seasons past, and what made Tara such a wonderful coach was the way the team kept improving all throughout the year.  We will see if Kate can do equally well at helping our team to improve.  We have talent, but we may not always have the right talent on the floor in the right combination at the right time playing the right tactics.  Time for Kate to start showing her coaching prowess.

Agara reminds me of Charles Barkley.  I say that in a complimentary way.   She is strong and quick for her size.

I thought Bosgana would be a star player this year. She didn't do that well when I was watching in the first half.

Intentionally omitted.  In a game like this, I don't believe that stat is indicative of anything helpful.  Lepolo didn't score and didn't assist, so what did she contribute?

“that well”. I guess 1 for 7 from the field qualifies for that euphemism.

She played worse than the stats indicate.  I like her, but today she was off her game BIG TIME.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Indiana, Sun 11am; preview and game thread - BillBradley - 11-17-2024

Rough one, but not really unexpected. I was happy the team showed some fight and played hard to the end. The team is slow and currently unable to defend very well. Top priority for KP IMO. Player thoughts:
- Need Ogden to stay out of foul trouble. She's a big part of the winning formula going forward. Needed way more than 14 minutes from her today.
- Demetre on the block is a weapon. Hopefully that can become a go-to play for us.
- Nunu struggled a bit more against more talented bigs. She'll continue to get better, and is a bright spot, but she can't do it all. She's just not good enough yet to takeover.
- Bosgana - still inconsistent. Makes it so hard to know how to play her. She can stay on the court if she defends and rebounds, unlike today.
- Harriel also needs to improve D to stay on the court.
- Agree with other posters, thought Clardy earned more minutes (again).
- Stevenson - made some good plays and could play an important role coming off the bench to spell Agara/Demetre. Like others, needs to be more consistent.
- Heal - maybe can be a sparkplug? Still haven't made my mind up about her. I like a lot of her game, but she's been so ineffective - just not sure she's talented enough.
- Lepolo... this year's team is just way different. It's no longer good enough for her to be "solid", take care of the ball, play good D, and let Cam, Kiki, Hannah etc. make all the offensive plays. That's more how a backup point guard plays. Maybe that should be her position.

I like a core group of Agara, Demetre, Ogden, Harriel, Clardy, all playing ~30 minutes if they can stay out of foul trouble. Sub Bosgana for Ogden, Heal for Harriel, Stevenson for Demetre/Agara, Lepolo for Clardy. If Bosgana is rebounding, let her play some at the 4 too.

It means one of two things (both of which can be true).  First, she is on the court with better players (likely true)/against weaker players (likely not true). Secondly, she contributes to the offensive effectiveness in ways that cannot be measured easily on the stat sheet or defensive effectiveness.

One game is probably not enough to make strong conclusions, but her +/- was also decidedly better against Davis.
