That last possession was not good.  We needed to win this in regulation.  Too many players with foul trouble.

so many dumb, needless fouls

1 point lead, possession, 35 seconds left.  We advance the ball after a time out.  Can we finish?

First we need to inbound the ball.

We need to move the ball and get a good shot, not just let the shot clock run down and then throw up a desperation shot at the end of the clock.

Why can't we make our free throws?????  Arrrrgggg

Have Tess handle the ball.

Wow! We escape with the win.

We win 75-74.  What a fantastic, gritty win.

Well, at least we didn’t foul on the three.

ALL RIGHT NOW!!!!  We had no business winning that game, but we'll take it.  Clardy was amazing tonight.

We missed 9 free throws tonight.

Great resilience and grit! Game ball to Chloe who carried us and Shay for knocking down two clutch free throws. Stanford turning teams over 20+ times, who would believe that!

Although we were far from perfect,  I do think we seem to be playing better without Agara the last few games. I don’t know what to make of that. Kennedy and Mary Ashley can contribute and help us and it’s nice they’re being given the minutes to prove it.

That was the hardest game remaining.  Doesn't mean will will win the next three, but it does mean we can dream.  It does mean the team will feel good about its prospects after a rough season.  The first road win against a winning team is gargantuan.

And we did it without Agara, and basically without Demetre and Bosgana.  This was mostly a Clardy win.  I would never have guessed at this time last year that Clardy was capable of a 30 point game, let alone a 30 point game on the road after a 3000+ mile trip and playing 44 minutes.  So encouraging.

We can dream about winning out.  Next stop:  Virginia.

RE: WBB: Stanford 75 Virginia Tech 74 OT - martyup - 02-20-2025

Despite only scoring 5 points, Demetre was our high rebounder with 7 (tied with Stevenson) and had 4 blocked shots.

The player that really didn't show up tonight was Tess Heal.  She only had 2 points and zero assists.

RE: WBB: Stanford 75 Virginia Tech 74 OT - crackpot - 02-20-2025

We've got Chloe Clardy and they don't.

RE: WBB: Stanford 75 Virginia Tech 74 OT - Nobadeer - 02-20-2025

Clardy 18 pts in the 4th quarter/OT. Overall 30 pts, 3 reb, 5 ast, 3 stl, committed only 2 fouls! She did miss 4 FTs, so it wasn't a perfect imitation of Candice Wiggins . . .

Barely made up for Demetre-Bosgana-Heal (combined 4 of 20 from the floor).

All things considered, one of the best wins of the season? 3-game win streak!

RE: WBB: Stanford 75 Virginia Tech 74 OT - BosCard - 02-20-2025

I like the role reversal.  This time it was our defense and ball pressure that caused turnovers and our guards who drove to the basket and made layups at the end.   This is encouraging for the future because it was Clardy, Ogden and Ijiwoye (the future of our team) who lead the way while our seniors and junior (Demetre, Bosgana and Heal) all struggled mightily shooting the ball.

The ACC digital network channel on Youtube has been really good about posting highlights and condensed replays (and some full games?) online.  It's been so much better than the Pac-12 network so far, for fan experience.

RE: WBB: Stanford 75 Virginia Tech 74 OT - M T - 02-20-2025

Great to get a win but lots of things wrong.
Failure to question who the ball was out on with 1.9 seconds on the clock in OT.  (Why was anyone in the front court on that inbounds?)
Failure to start the drive until 3.9 seconds at the end of Q4.

Hat's off to Shay for making those final 2 FT which sealed it.
Clardy had a good offensive game.

Can we give the team some coffee an hour or so before their away games?  It seems the team performs much better in the 2nd half.

I'd hate to have to figure out which officiating crew has been the worst!

RE: WBB: Stanford 75 Virginia Tech 74 OT - paloalto - 02-20-2025

Umeh looks like she is gaining confidence.   At one point she stole the ball and dribbled down the court to the basket.  I don't think she would have done that early in the season.  Also getting time at critical points in the game is probably helping with confidence.  Sure she is a project right now but nice to see improvement.
