I believe the deal Kiffin made with the coaches who are moving on to LSU with him will permit them to continue to coach at Mississippi until their playoff run is over.

Anyone else watching the FCS title game with Justin Lamson at QB for Montana St.?
RE: Other games -
Nobadeer - 01-05-2026
Lamson in the first half: 12 of 13 passing for 228 (!) yards and a long TD. Plus 9 QB keepers and 2 rushing TDs. Standing tall in the pocket, throwing with confidence and had a nice stiff arm and and lowered shoulder on his best run. The opponent isn't exactly Pac12 or Power 4 but still, he is dealing. Montana St winning 21-7 at halftime.

How odd that he was our running quarterback and rarely passed.
RE: Other games -
Nobadeer - 01-05-2026
Lamson throws winning TD in OT on 4th-and-10, and he is a national champion!!
Montana St wins 35-34, actually one of the most entertaining games, college or pro, that I saw all season. Espn play by play from LSJU's own Dave Flemming aka dbf98.
Crowd noise at the stadium (Vanderbilt hosted) led to 9 false start penalties for Montana St.
Lamson 18 of 27, 279 yards, 2 pass TDs, 2 rush TDs.

Thanks for the tip!
I tuned in just in time to see the last play of the game -- Lamson completed a TD pass to the corner of the end zone on 4th and 10; the kick wins the FCS title for Montana St 35-34. Lamson's receiver was open by 5 yards.

Very happy for Lamson. MTST just won the championship in OT.
The ILST kicker got his last-minute FG blocked and got his XP blocked in the OT period. Opened the door for the MTST XP in OT to be the winning point.
Entertaining last few minutes.

Seriously, the receiver’s name was “Taco”? He was wide open because the defense brought an all-out blitz (7 rushers) on fourth down, leaving four defenders 1-on-1. Someone was bound to have gotten a step, and if you look, at least two receivers could easily have gotten a touchdown.

Thanks for sharing and great for Lamson! I'm assuming he received his Stanford degree and this was his grad transfer? I always liked his grit and willingness to run through people - what a beast!

For sure, it was the only football on today!
As for "Taco" Dowler who caught the winning TD, our fellow LSJU alum Dave Flemming noted on the telecast that his real name is McLean, he liked Taco Bell as a little kid, has a twin brother (Caden) who plays LB for Montana St. "Taco" is listed at just 5-9, 170 but was apparently a 10.9 100m sprinter in HS, 21.9 in the 200m and 22'+ in the long jump.

While it didn't win the game, Lamson threw a key 4th-down pass for Stanford against Lousiville in 2024:

Despite being drafted as TT player I look forward to following his NFL career and expect much havoc to follow in many a backfield!
He was our favorite player, and we could never understand how he was being used. I remember his quote upon committing to the Farm. His family was pushing him to go elsewhere, and he replied, "The players are all like me, Dad."

Yes - Lamson earned his BA in Sociology in 2024.
I had to check Lamson's collegiate path again b/c I thought he'd transferred somewhere else after leaving Stanford - I remembered correctly. Anyhow, here's his story:
21-22 seasons: @ Syracuse. Redshirted the 2021 season season. Expected to be the QB2 for 2022 but suffered a season-ending injury in 2021 spring practice & DNP in 2022
April, 2023: enters the portal, signs with Stanford
23-24 seasons: @ Stanford, primarily as the backup to Ashton Daniels. Overall, played in 24 games, starting 4. Finished with 62 completions in 135 attempts for 804 yards, 4 TD & 4 INTs + rushed for 428 yds on 188 carries, scoring 13 TDs
Dec, 24: Earns BA in Sociology
Jan, 25: Enters portal, signs with Bowling Green (this was the part I was trying to remember)
Mar, 25: Enters portal again due to BGU coaching change, signs with Montana State
2025 season: BINGO! @ Montana State, completes 255/356 passes for 3,172 yards, 26 TD, 3 (!!) INTs + gained 734 yards on 176 rushes, scoring 16 TD. FCS Champions!
Whew - he lived a pretty full life these past 5 years. Congrats to him, but dang, where do these kids find the energy?!?!?......

Good for Lamson and good for Bailey too! That Louisville walk off win was one of the better, more exciting wins for us over the last few years and Lamson really hung in there and took the hit on that TD play! While I wish they had both stayed, I don't begrudge players leaving after earning their Stanford degrees. With early matriculation and summer school/summer practices, earning a degree in 3+ years is a likely scenario for many of these players. We need to make the program such a success that leaving early is an unlikely and an unwise choice.

Being realistic, keeping players who already have a degree will be possible if 1) they are essentially certain to actually play in their grad transfer year,, 2) they haven't already shown enough for the NFL, and 3) nobody is offering them lots more money than Stanford is willing to pay. That isn't a large subset of graduating players. There is also the distinct possibility that their academic endeavors will be better served by leaving. Going to prominent school in the area where they want to live may create opportunities that are much more attractive than staying at Stanford . Therefore retaining such players will probably be quite difficult.

Some interesting data after a quick search:
Montana St: avg attendance about 21000-22000 (3rd or 4th in FCS), stadium capacity = 17000 + a recent 5200-seat addition in the end zone.
LSJU: avg attendance 28000 (really?!), stadium capacity = about 50,000.
Just a thought: Maybe 21000 folks crammed into a sold-out stadium provide a lot more vocal support than 28000 folks in a half-sold venue. (Of course, as we all know, the weekend entertainment options in Bozeman are somewhat limited compared to the Bay Area.)
Happy for Lamson; he showed his toughness on the field when he was here.

Anyone else enjoying the schadenfreude of Alabama's loss to Indiana? The crowing from the Alabama boosters pre game followed by the utter silence later is oh so enjoyable.
My rooting ladder: Indiana->Oregon->Miami->Meteor Strike->Ole Miss
I might swap Oregon and Indiana as the game approaches but Ole Miss is firmly behind the meteor strike.
PS: I know Miami is in "our" conference but I have 0% ACC loyalty ... and it's Miami.

As someone who lost something that can never be found again in a sorority house room in Bozeman, there are worse places to go to school. Also, shout out to my dad who was there for three years in the 1950s before getting on a train to Atlanta to finish. And I hope they lord this over the granola school in Missoula.
I'm rooting for an Indiana-Ole Miss final. What Cignetti and the money people in Bloomington are on the cusp of doing is insane. From the worst program in history to national champions in two years?
And how can you not love Hotty Toddy kicking Kiffen in his Baton Rouge ass?
Are you ready? Hotty Toddy, Gosh Almighty, Who the hell are we? Hey! Hotty Toddy, Gosh Almighty, Who the hell are we? Hey! Hotty Toddy, Gosh Almighty, Who the hell are we? Hey! Rim Ram! Flim Fam! Ole Miss by damn!
A meteor strike really doesn't have a cool chant.
RE: Other games -
Leftcoast - 01-06-2026
You mis-calculate the originality here. I'm sure the board could come up with a good chant for a Meteor strike although "Hot Toddy" would be tough to beat.
To clarify my position:
Schools that rank below a meteor strike:
* All SEC (minus Vandy and Tennesse (TN earns a Pat Summit pass))
* Oklahoma
Schools that rank below TWO meteor strikes (2nd one needed just to make sure):
* USC (never, never, forget; never, never, forgive!)
* UCLA
Just above meteor strike status but damn close:
* Cal Football (but ask me again later)
* Miami
* UConn (May seem low but it's a Geno thing)

Where does Notre Dame fall? Maybe 1.5 meteor strikes?
