RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - BostonCard - 09-18-2021

Shaw’s move Pays off as we push the receiver out of bounds with 20 seconds left.

Too bad about the flag, as Filkins got 48 yards.

Wow!  The flag was against Vandy.  And now we got the ball back in the red zone.

Yeah baby!!! Way to finish a half CARDINAL!! Brilliant coaching too!!

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - BostonCard - 09-18-2021

Someone owes Shaw an apology about his clock management.  He stole is 3 points there, with a wise time out on second down, and a great run back by Filkins.  I think Shaw was playing for a blocked punt, but this worked too.

Gutsy move by Shaw calling a time out and maybe forcing Vanderbilt to give it back.  Hope it doesn’t blow up.

On 3rd and 9?  That's definitely the right call.  I know I'm saying that after seeing the result, but when we made the play I was yelling "call a timeout" and was surprised Shaw actually did.

That’s the play we should have run last time. DB had no chance.

BC

Agree with you 100%.

27 points in the first half.  That's good football folks.

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - TrumpCard - 09-18-2021

Shaw out coached Lea to end the half.

Edit: Not taking away anything from Wyrick, Filkins, Humphreys, Tremaine, etc. Just wanted to note it since the peanut gallery tends to focus on the negative with Shaw.

I'll readily give him credit for that TO, just as I criticize him for needlessly wasting so many of them over the years.

The defense turned it around, but they were awful for all but the last few minutes of that half.  If they pick up where they left off, then it'll be irrelevant and forgotten, but if they keep getting carved up by a team that scored 3 points against East Tennessee State, then we will need to address that...

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - Bampa - 09-18-2021

Why did Stanford score that last TD before the half?

Simple...they kept the hot QB ON THE FIELD...instead of on the bench.

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - Treefence - 09-18-2021

One really nice aspect of this game so far, it really looks like McKee is playing very well, and has a chance to be very good.  If he keeps playing this well, then we have a lot to look forward to this season.

The time out was on second and 9, which was why it wasn’t necessarily obvious (the announcers didn’t think of it).  The third and nine play ran the receiver out of bounds, but Shaw would have called our last time out had he been in bounds.

P. S. I note that Karty's kicks (both FGs and PATs) are barely making it inside the uprights. May be relevant later.

Perhaps, but Karty will be the highest NFL pick at kicker in some time.

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - JohnR34231 - 09-18-2021

For about 27 minutes, Vandy looked like a pretty good team (or at least we made them look that way). Kind of unraveled for them in the last three. It will be interesting to see if they can pick it up in the second half.

Now 34-14. Short of a complete collapse, I'd say we are in excellent shape.

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - ADPinWDC - 09-18-2021

SMARTBall by heady Stanford the last three minutes of 1H. INT, then McKee goes for a lob TD.
Nice punt return by Filkens with 30 seconds, and we pick up a FG on the top. Up 27-14 at half

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - BostonCard - 09-18-2021

The tackling was much better on that series.

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - MV72018 - 09-18-2021

Nice D!!!

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - TrumpCard - 09-18-2021

A quick strike TD here would be demoralizing for Vandy.

RE: Vanderbilt Game Thread - BostonCard - 09-18-2021

Great clock awareness by McKee there.  It was a well defended pass, but really heads up to get to the line and snap within 5 seconds.

It was 3rd and 9, 1st down was an incomplete pass, 2nd down was a 1 yard run, leading to 3rd and 9.
