Now back to 5 :/

triangle2 - triangle2 - 02-25-2023

This is like a mid-90’s Pac-12 game — this is how the conference got a rep for being soft because the refs would call a foul if you breathed too heavily. It’s an embarrassment and an indictment of the conference’s unwillingness to face up to a problem that is decades long. No one from this crew should ever work another game in the conference.

50 fouls? WTF??

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Utah Saturday 11am - MV72018 - 02-25-2023

Not looking good with a minute or so left.

How many layups have we missed? More than enough to make the difference in this game.

Again, Kneepkens left open for another trey. Where is Tara's adjustment?

I mean, if we get a bucket here, esp. a 3, it’s a 1-possession game. There’s still time.

Absolutely, assuming we play good D and avoid stupid fouls.

Yes, it seems they were teasing.  Two turnovers in the last minute won't get it done.  Valiant effort under tough circumstances.  We will probably play them again.

And stop turning the ball over, we don't even get a shot attempt as we turn the ball over twice in the last couple possessions

No one even close to those passes

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Utah Saturday 11am - mbdude - 02-25-2023

Make it 3 turnovers

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Utah Saturday 11am - chrisk - 02-25-2023

Double Utah’s turnovers

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Utah Saturday 11am - MV72018 - 02-25-2023

Nice try but too many sloppy mistakes, fouls, and some AWOL on O.

I feekl like that's going to be the microcosm of the season. We're on the cusp of being dominant and then offensive woes, defensive misses, coaching lapses, prevents us from reaching that next level

Hats off to UT.  They played a great game.  Kneepkins is a baller.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Utah Saturday 11am - MV72018 - 02-25-2023

Crumbling in the clutch. Not impressive. Down about 10 with less than a half minute to play.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Utah Saturday 11am - TheWildJacko - 02-25-2023

Defender moving with Haley falls over backwards without Haley initiating contact, Haley gets the charge, meanwhile Young can lower her shoulder into a defender and knock her over and we get called for the block, and the announcers praise her for creating the contact. BTW, that’s a charge in the NBA—they changed the rule to disallow lunging into the defender.

I sensed the air went out when Pili hit the end of third quarter 3-pointer.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Utah Saturday 11am - 81alum - 02-25-2023

These officials have called all the close ones to be charges rather than blocks.  But never on Kneepkins.

Not that the officiating cost us the game....but it sure changes from game to game.

Let's hope we see them in Las Vegas.  And our vaunted defense needs some tweaking or we won't win the tourney either.

Congrats to Utah.  Much rather lose to them than most others, simply because I like their style of play.

A topic for another thread perhaps and obviously complaining about the refs is an entrenched sports tradition, but just wondering will that always be a part of sports with contact, like basketball and football? Will there be technology, such as with AI, that we can someday take the human judgment (and its vulnerabilities to biasness) out of the equation?

2 keys
1. 21 turnovers to 10
2. A little skewed with fouls late but 33 free throws to 17.

A lot of homer officiating today, and a tired team.

If we don't start playing better both on offense and defense, we might have trouble getting out of the Sweet 16. Teams now seem to believe they can beat us and bring their A game. The ref problem has been around forever and will be around even longer if the conference doesn't do something about it. It may be heresy to say this, but sometimes it looks like Tara has lost her coaching touch.
