Based on expectations there is not much upside to this game but plenty of downside.  Stanford will have to play near perfect basketball to avoid criticism.  Teams rarely play near perfect basketball.

I don't bet.  It I did bet I would go big on Sacred Heart and take the points.  Even if Stanford were to somehow get close to that margin during the game the bench will get emptied.

That would be my thought as well.  If I were to bet, I wouldn't give that many points on a Stanford game.  The team is capable of a blowout like this, but a closer game with a win by 20ish points seems more likely.  And nothing is ever certain.

Sacred Heart's net ranking is 1 point higher than Cal Poly's, whom we beat by 37.  So that's the over/under margin I'm looking at.

But the more interesting over/under is how many 3s Jump will shoot.  She had 8 in the 1st two games last NCAA tournament (5 in the first game).  It'll depend on how many minutes she plays, but I'll put the over-under for Jump 3s at 4.5.

Brink is out (non-Covid illness) per ESPN.

Ouch. While others will be thinking about Lauren, I think this is a great opportunity for Kiki to rebuild her confidence and show everyone what she is capable of -- especially if she can stay out of foul trouble.

She must be really bummed to miss this game.  Sure hope she recovers before Sunday.

Who will fire up the team?

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Sacred Heart Friday 4:30 - 81alum - 03-17-2023

SH, which is not a prolific 3 point shooting team, spent a LOT of time practicing them.  Stanford has not been practicing since my arrival.  SH band is here, our band arriving and setting up on the opposite end than usual.

Brink not practicing.

Someone else is missing...perhaps Harriel?

Start the Funk Four along with one of the freshman point guards.

Time for the Funky Four to get funky.

I'd bet that the great bulk of posters here assumed before the game that this will be a blowout.

Does that remain true halfway through the first quarter?

I Never want to see that small lineup again.

Yes, for me anyway.  We got our 20 point quarter, which is my benchmark for success.

To my eyes, Stanford has by far the more skilled and taller players. It shouldn't be close.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Sacred Heart Friday 4:30 - BostonCard - 03-17-2023

On back to back possessions, Haley Jones ran plays that left my mouth open.

Sacred Heart was hot shooting (6/13; 2/3 from 3), but we were hotter (10/14; 2/3 from 3).  Just disappointing that we didn't make our free throws (1/3).  Lack of offensive rebounding (0 offensive rebounds) is a concern.

We're starting to get our rhythm in the dance.  On track for a 92 point game.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Sacred Heart Friday 4:30 - BostonCard - 03-17-2023

I guess with Brink out of the line-up, somebody had to pick up her phantom fouls?  Even the announcers couldn't figure out what contact Jones made.
