LOL. I kept my football season tix for >40 years despite moving to SoCal in the late 80's and living overseas for the 90's. The Domer fans were always willing to fully subsidize my whole season on StubHub, especially when those ND games were 2 days after Thanksgiving.
One of my close friends is a Stanford alum who grew up in Connecticut. He's been known to openly root for Geno's team against ours. I simply excommunicate him during hoops season.

Being realistic, keeping players who already have a degree will be possible if 1) they are essentially certain to actually play in their grad transfer year,, 2) they haven't already shown enough for the NFL, and 3) nobody is offering them lots more money than Stanford is willing to pay. That isn't a large subset of graduating players. There is also the distinct possibility that their academic endeavors will be better served by leaving. Going to prominent school in the area where they want to live may create opportunities that are much more attractive than staying at Stanford . Therefore retaining such players will probably be quite difficult.
Also, pretty sure they have to be admitted to a Stanford grad program. Yes, I’ve read the discussion about “special programs.” Just wanted to complete the requirements list.

Always can delay graduation for a qtr. football used to have many do this. WVB does
Of course more and more college students are graduating in less than 4 years and football players usually have taken classes for 4 summer sessions prior to their 4 year

No - the post bacc option =
non-matriculated graduate study for bachelors degree holders, i.e. whereby such students meeting the university's post-baccalaureate admissions standards can take classes for academic credit on a non-degree basis.
The November 6 Faculty Senate discussion on post-bacc policy revisions specified the revisions would "allow...student-athletes to pursue post-bacc study while competing under NCAA rules." and that "(u)nder the new policy, student-athletes who have completed their bachelor’s degree but still have remaining athletic eligibility may enroll in graduate courses across departments for up to two years."

1.5 Meteor Strikes? Seems about right.
Truthfully, ND fans are lovably depressed during losing streaks but insufferable when they’re winning. Sadly they win more than they lose so that averages out to 1.5 meteors.

Did anyone else miss that there was a college football semi-final today? I totally missed what looked like an entertaining game with Miami scoring the go ahead touchdown with 18 seconds left. I guess go ACC, though I so wish it were Virginia as our rep.
Does that mean Oregon-Indiana game is tomorrow.
In other news, there will be no OMG-SEC teams playing for a national title.

I'll see your 1.5 strikes and raise it by 0.5. On second thought, I'll go with + 0.4 - if we can agree this little tidbit counts as +0.1 -
Domer QBs have lost 25 consectutive NFL starts in the last 14 seasons

I was curious about the inverse, and GoogleAI said “While there isn't a single definitive record easily found for college QB alumni winning NFL games yearly, Purdue University is often cited as having the most NFL starting QBs and wins, suggesting a very long, consistent presence of successful alumni QBs, possibly leading to a strong streak, though specific year-by-year winning streaks for all alumni in the NFL are complex to track across all schools. University of Washington, UCLA, Notre Dame, and Michigan are also strong contenders due to producing numerous NFL QBs, but Purdue's consistent QB production makes them a likely leader for alumni QBs winning games yearly.” Someone here probably knows how to find the answer better than Google - I wonder how Stanford stacks up?

Top 10 appear to be, in order, for each AI tool:
Gemini: Oklahoma, USC, Alabama, LSU, Oregon, California, Washington, Ohio State, NC State, Stanford.
ChatGPT: Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee, Louisville, LSU, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, California, Ohio State (current QBs only, the last six schools -- like Stanford -- have two alums on NFL rosters)
Perplexity: Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Cal, Oregon, USC, LSU, Louisville, NC State, Clemson, Wyoming, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Utah State, Michigan, North Carolina
Grok: Alabama, Oklahoma, Louisville, North Carolina, North Dakota State, Oregon, Tennessee, California, Georgia, Houston
Two most interesting bits of information: (1) every AI tool can't agree on the most prominent QB schools, or even which alums are on existing rosters, and (2) by their own criteria, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Grok should have listed Stanford, given Mills and McKee. Every one had to grudgingly admit that they should have included Stanford in their Top 10s.

Great game, I was rooting for the underdog Ole Miss. They just ran out of gas (Miami ran 88 offensive plays) at the end. Darn, I would like to have seen the Kiffin-less upstarts make it all the way.
I know that I’m in the minority here but I think college football is much better today despite all the recent upheaval.

Thanks, Mick, for checking the AI tools - maybe it's good there isn't cyber groupthink!
Just for the heck of it, I took data from
Stanford Players/Alumni | Pro-Football-Reference.com and crunched the numbers the old-fashioned way using a spreadsheet. Stanford has had 24 alum QB in the NFL starting with Frankie Albert in 1946; of them, 14 have started at least one game. If my tabulations are correct, in the 80 seasons through this current one, there have been only four seasons with no Stanford alum QB on an NFL roster. Our stretch of futility was not as bad as Notre Dame's - from 1999 through 2006 (8 years, including the abovementioned roster-less four years) but that entailed just one loss in the only start during that period- Randy Fasani in 2002. Hop over to the trivia thread where I will post two questions about the glory years for Stanford's alum QBs.

Well, you got your wish… it will be the Hoosiers versus the Hurricanes in the final. On the other hand, it was another snoozefest that was done by halftime. 56-22. Through 10 games, only three have been decided by a touchdown or less (Miami/Texas A&M, Ole Miss/Georgia, and Miami/Ole Miss).
