I'm not familiar with David Bailey's, but Kiki Iriafen also graduated and we should claim both...along with Nunu, Chloe, Courtney. They will not be the last to graduate and play their fourth year somewhere else.

I'm totally game to claim anyone who graduated. But Nai feels especially egregious because she played 4 seasons and didn't really have a choice to come back until it was too late. To me, that sets her a little bit apart from the others, whom we all desperately wanted back.

Anyone who has a Stanford degree is an alum. Their current bi-lateral relationship with the University is a somewhat different issue. There are undoubtedly cases where the alum does not "claim" Stanford and is estranged from the University. However IMO any alum who hasn't expressed otherwise should receive acknowledgement of that status from the University, i.e. it should "claim" them. There are undoubtedly cases where the University would rather not do so because of bad conduct (e.g. Elizabeth Holmes, who didn't graduate but left after 2 years), but that IMO does't matter. We are stuck with them in that case.
Cases like Tiger Woods are different in that he never graduated (left after 2 years). Neither did Christian McCaffrey. Should we "claim" them? What exactly does it mean if we do? Christian left to turn pro. We still love him. Bailey also left to
turn pro go to Texas Tech, but he got his degree before he did so. Why would Bailey not qualify if Christian does?

Anyone else watching Valks v Sky on tv? Prechtel is getting some minutes and set a nice screen against Carrington. Carrington is just "provac" by nature.
Valks can win it all if they can figure out the Lynx.
_______________________________________________
Prechtel played a career high 18 minutes, 3 pt 3 reb 2 ast, 1 stl, and guarded Cardoso the whole time.
Fingall got in at the end, her fourth appearance.
Carrington just 1 of 9 shooting, 3 TOs, 3 fouls and apparently a Valks fan was ejected for heckling her.
Alanna Smith is starting to heat up for Dallas, fourth straight game in double figures, 13 pts, plus 11 reb, 4 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk. Dallas visit GSV on Monday.

As I recall it, Carrington had issues with the coaches or team in her final year. She was away from the team for a time apart from her injury and it wasn't clear whether she was going to return. Whether it was because of the lack of a promise of a fifth year or issues with Coach VanDerveer or something else wasn't public. I liked Carrington's game because, at the time, she was one of our few players who could get to the rim on her own and score. However, her game was very inconsistent and she did not seem to thrive in the structured offense.
She does not seem to have had an ongoing relationship with the program and I have never seen pictures of her talking to the team or being at other events where basketball alum show up. Also, she has always listed her college on her roster designations as Baylor, not Stanford so the separation may be mutual. She is obviously an alum but the posts by the team about alum are just marketing and there are no rules about who has to be included. For all we know, Stanford has reached out before and she doesn't want to be a part of any Stanford WBB marketing. I just don't think it is anything to get worked up about.
Cheers,
Pete F.

Here are pictures of Carrington on the bench cheering her teammates vs. Oregon State her senior year. She does not appear to be estranged from the team at this point.

Carrington did return to the team that year and did the end of the year farewell but that doesn't mean she was happy with the program. In fact, a player being really engaged with their teammates does not appear to be very indicative of their feelings about the program at all. Lara Somfai and her teammates were in a great many positive photos online last year before several of them left the program. The players who stayed still like and follow those who left and those who left do the same for those who stayed. Haley Jones was clearly unhappy her senior year but was still a really good teammate to the other players.
The point is that it is entirely possible that Carrington not being in Stanford's WNBA promotional materials is as much her choice as Stanford's. It doesn't make any sense to me to assume Carrington is being dissed by the program.
Cheers,
Pete F.

I assume it's WBB-wide because I never see ANY of our grads lauded if they finished their college career elsewhere. It makes me insane.

Laid up right now resulting in too much reading and TV; so I have watched a bunch of WNBA games recently…
- Smith definitely looks better; so I think I underestimated the combination of a new team and injuries. She was decent vs. the Fever a few nights ago and if she hits 1-2 of her 4 threes, she has a solid game. Defense not all the way back, but improving.
- Nneka still playing well on a bad Sparks team.
- Kiana getting a few minutes with the Sparks. 22.6% from three is a problem though.
- Brink looked a step behind a few weeks ago, but looked much, much better recently. The Sparks are still clueless, playing the starters 30ish minutes a game with the team going nowhere and with no Plum. Cam and others like Grey need more minutes. Unfortunately, she was hurt again vs. the Liberty but I believe it’s bruised ribs and is unlikely to sideline her long. Her fragility though I think is becoming a legitimate concern.
- I said earlier Lexie needed to find more ways to score, and we have seen the opposite instead. Her offense is just gone - 0,5,5,6 and 1 points her last 5 games. Her 3 point % is only slightly down, but she has no shot volume. She also is a decent defender, but she isn’t elite. The Fever put Mitchell on Bueckets vs. the Wings Friday not Lexie. She still starts but doesn’t get starter minutes.
Not everybody obviously - just who I have seen recently.
On a side note just wow Clark was good vs. Dallas despite an off night from 3. Completely controlled the second half against another elite player in Bueckers.

Lexie's WNBA journey has been a fascinating basketball case study. The last few seasons, the Fever had a bunch of injuries. In 2025, with both Clark and Cunningham out, Lexie had to play a lot of minutes, was counted on to score, shot incredibly well for most of the season, and was a key factor on both sides of the ball. The Fever were 1 overtime loss away from making it to the championship. Fast forward to today...both Clark and Cunningham are healthy and playing well. Cunningham is 3rd in the league at 3 point percentage. She is also massively popular in Indiana. As a team, the Fever are currently the highest scoring team in the league. There are times where Lexie is completely wide open, calling for the ball, and they don't pass it to her. But who can blame them? What they are doing is working. Clark, Mitchell, and Boston can't be stopped, so Lexie's offensive role is simply shrinking. She can play 15 minutes and only touch the ball on offense a few times. They want the ball in the hands of their main scorers, simply because they are so good. And I agree Heironymous, she isn't really an elite defender. She's very good, but isn't quite "lock down". She also used to get more steals, O boards, loose balls, etc. but it looks like she's being coached to simply "be solid". Don't foul, don't take risks and get burned, don't turn it over...play solid D, make open layups, take a few open threes - that's all we need from you with everyone else being so good. And it's working. They've won 10 out of their last 13, with only close losses. Hate watching it happen to Lexie. She has proven she is capable of so much more and I can't stand the selfish play of the others, but that's the way it goes in the pros.

The overall reality for the Fever is the offense is awesome and the defense - not so much. The defense is so bad one player, unless she was an elite shot blocker, can’t move the needle much. Basically the Fever aim to win 100-90. It makes Cunnngham the better fit most of the time.
I was wondering why Kiana wasn’t on the roster this morning. I even checked and didn’t see any news she had been released.

Stanford Women's Soccer has no problem claiming its grad transfers:
- Ryan Campbell played her grad-transfer year at UCLA. They congratulated her when she won the 2025 NWSL title with Gotham.
- Mariah Lee played her grad-transfer year at Wake Forest. They congratulated her after she won the 2025 Northern Super League championship with Vancouver Rise.
- Lumi Kostmayer played her grad-transfer year at Cal. Yes CAL! And she was Cal's leading scorer. They still congratulated her after she signed professionally with Fortuna Hjørring.
- Madison Ayson played her grad-transfer year at Xavier. They celebrated her when she signed professionally with the Houston Dash.
- Kyra Carusa played her grad-transfer year at Georgetown. They celebrated her when she represented Ireland at the 2023 World Cup.
