My understanding is that an undergrad applying for a coterm program has a high probability of acceptance.

Quote:"It was just the overall transparency from Coach Madsen and his staff," Stojakovic said. "We had many conversations about a development plan, what me at Cal could look like. Just overall, the consistency with them recruiting me, spending time with myself and my family."

Madsen made Stojakovic a priority in the portal from the time he entered in mid-March, conducting an in-home visit with the freshman wing and his family early in the process.

"I didn't know him at all. My dad didn't know him personally. He came to the house that same week I entered the portal," Stojakovic said. "The stories and experiences he was able to share with my dad the first time meeting, we kind of bonded over each other's goals. What he wants to accomplish for his team, but his vision for myself. He truly believes in me, the staff truly believes in me. That's all someone like me could ask for."

I continue to blame Bernard Muir for not hiring Mark Madsen when he had a chance to do so. Talk about NOT SEIZING THE DAY! Madsen will continue to win away many quality players that Stanford was recruiting. He makes a great impression on people since he is smart, articulate, ethical, NBA-experienced, charismatic, and extremely personable.

Plenty of ivy transfers too.  Surprised they aren't coming here.  Or maybe not.

RE: The exodus begins - Hurlburt88 - 04-28-2024

the only solace I will take is that MM probably won't be at Cal all that long

But Bernie will be A.D.-For-Life at Stanford. And THAT is the larger problem.

Agree.  Wonderful sentiment, and very well said

Quote:I don’t believe the advent of NIL has fundamentally changed athletes; rather, I believe it has exposed their underlying values. Each athlete now operates as a speculator, weighing the long-term investment of their college experience (education, personal growth, connection, etc.) against short-term financial gain. This shift has blurred the line between college as an investment or a pursuit of immediate profitability.

We are in the running for Harvard forward Chisom Okpara. He averaged 16.5 points and 5 rebounds last year.

I always think that, whenever I read about a student-athlete (I realize that's an unfashionable term, but I am unrepentantly unfashionable) that has strong grades and test scores, "why didn't they go to Stanford?" Or at least Cal...

RE: The exodus begins - BobK - 05-05-2024

Angel graduated in three years not sure a minor or grad school last year.

I retain two vivid memories of UO, from a college selection trip my son and I took up to UW and UO by car in 2003. First, it was truly a beautiful campus. Second, the bookstore was one of the most pathetic I've ever seen on a university campus. Pitifully thin selection of (non-text) books for purchase. That spoke volumes to me. For the sake of the students, I hope the main university library is a lot better in its scholarly holdings.
