We need a little more out of our guards not named Jump. I like how we are looking in this third quarter.

We have outscored the Beavers 13-6 in the 3rd Q

Much higher intensity level the last few minutes. Might be the perfect kind of game for Agara. Brooke making up for her first half defensive issues.

Hey, experts. What has Stanford done to neutralize Beers?

I see 2 things. First, Cam has adjusted to the amount of contact being allowed. Second several of Beers buckets were layups on dishes when Cam had to help against dribble penetration, and the perimeter defense has mostly shut that down now.

We outscored them 23-8 in the 3rd Q to take a 7 point lead 50-43.
4 more assists and Brink will have a triple double

Kiki is a disaster right now. Both ways.

Beers mauls Iriafen, OSU gets the ball out of bounds.

LET'S GO! Comeback kids. Awesome effort and kudos to Hannah, Brooke for great 2nd half performances. Cam and Kiki too for hanging in there. On to the championship

- jump was brobdingnagian today
- Kiki was almost useless in the second half. Too much time on the bench I guess.
- Lepolo isn’t good enough right now.
- Cam adjusted to difficult officiating.
- Demetre redeemed her first half with a solid second.
- rebounding was much better in half 2. We were I think -5 at half and ended +4.
- overall, much higher intensity in the second half.

Halftime adjustments. No more talk about Tara’s coaching

Congratulations to the Cardinal on an excellent comeback.
The bench finally stepped up with 12 points in H2 and Jum certainly
played brilliantly in H2, ofsetting subpar nights for both Iriakin and
Brink. Now we face either UCLA or USC for the chip. We can do this
if we play at our best.
Re Tony's comment, what adjustments do you think Tara made in H2
that made such a difference?

When a team consistently overperforms in the second half, I got to give the coach some credit

1) I wasn't following the Cardboard during the game and I am glad. There were stretches in the first half where I was just as frustrated as some of the posters here, but I restrained myself. I've seen our team get off to a lot of slow starts this year and still pull it off. Is this a weakness? Sure is. But in the games we have lost it has not usually been because of a slow start. Somehow we have been able to overcome rotten first quarters--even first halves--several times. And we did again tonight.
2) Most impressive stat of the game: 25 assists on 29 made field goals. And mostly in the second half. We figured out the way to beat Oregon State's defense was the PASS. This is how Brink got 9 assists--she passed out of the mob in the paint.
3) Jump and Demetre were 6/9 from three point range, and this was critical to turning the momentum in the second half, not to mention the 18 points. Jump with 20 points dramatically broke out of her slump and saved the game for us.
4) All you Lepolo critics, note that her +/- was +12, second only to Brink. That is probably because of her fabulous defense on TVO who had 11 points, 2 turnovers, and an Oregon State worst +/- of -20. But I expect Lepolo will improve her mobility after the knee surgery in the off season.
5) Brink with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 blocks, and (most importantly) 37 minutes on the floor.
6) Key stats: Oregon State shot 61% in 1st quarter, and was under 30% the rest of the game. Stanford shot 35% in the first half, and 55% in the second half. Lots of things happened to create those two reversals, but they are the story of the game.
7) Officiating: 9 free throw attempts, between the two teams, for the whole game. A typical Missy game, typified by Beers shoving Brink out of the way down to the ground, scoring, and trotting back on defense while Missy looked on.
I will open a new thread for the championship game tomorrow, once we know the opponent.

Wow, you are certainly difficult to please. Brink was one assist away from a triple double. Iriafen was one rebound away from a double double, even though she only played 23 minutes. They were warriors in there battling that bruiser Beers.

Really happy with this win. Our players battled and took it from them. We were able to go from flat to inspired. Not only did we win, we went from 16 down to a 9 point victory. Slaughtered them in the second half. That's a good sign, and Cam gets a ton of credit for it. Watching the post game clips of the team and the interview after, it's obvious what a tremendous leader she's become. She certainly could improve on the frustration/emotion, but no one can fault her for her competitive drive.
Other thoughts:
- Though Lepolo did a great job on TVO. 7 shot attempts, only 2 assists and 2 TO's. She worked her tail off. Even though TVO doesn't score a ton, she facilitates so much and Lepolo really affected her game.
- One of the main adjustments Tara made at half was to restrict the guards from chasing over the top of the high ball screen. Normally Cam can be there to contest while our guard is chasing, but she couldn't leave Beers. When not guarding Beers, Gardiner was on the perimeter and she couldn't leave her either. When our guards went underneath, they never scored.
- Rueck sure is a good coach.
- Awesome contribution from Demetre today! Maybe this is our formula - we need 2 other players to put the ball in the basket. Yesterday it was Elena and Talana, today it was Hannah and Brooke.
- I was concerned when Cam asked to come out with 3 minutes left and they were working on her leg on the bench. Hoping it was just a cramp.
- I know folks like to bicker about the refs, but lately the glasses are getting way too cardinal rosey. Beers is strong and plays under control. Cam and Kiki get way more out of control at times throughout the game and I thought both could have been whistled for fouls multiple times and the refs didn't blow the whistle. No one wants to see 50 fouls called in the semi's of the P12 tourney. It's physical and the refs are going to let things go. My opinion is the same as it's always been - I'm glad they are letting them play. We've won both games so far, and it's been really intense and fun to watch the battle (at least for me :>).
Go Card!

Agree about Cam. She didn't shoot well from the perimeter, but she played an amazing game.

After the terrible first quarter, we won the second (15-11), third (23-8), and fourth quarters (16-14), outscoring the Beaver 54-33 in those three quarters.

Is something up with that Robert Scofield?
He looked to be calling a double-dribble on OSU, but no whistle and play continued.
When OSU tips the ball out of Hannah's hands into the backcourt and Hannah runs after to grab it, it looks like he called a touch, but then whistles her for over-n-back.
Or is my family all having the same hallucination?
