PS: also loving that it's a front-page story on ESPN. Been a long time since Stanford women's basketball has made the front page!

So thrilled. I had resigned myself to her going elsewhere, but she will be very happy at Stanford. BTW, the excitement seems to have brought down the athletics website(s)!

This was a hard morning of anticipation. A couple of you know I am the last person on earth not to carry a cell phone. And at the time of the announcement I was inside a machine in the doctor's office. So I had to wait an extra 90 minutes to find out the good news.

This is spectacular. I really do think we have a good prospect of getting Tara another national championship over the next few years. And it is not just Haley--but that whole class is amazing, as the next one will be too.

But you know something interesting? As I thought about my own hope for Stanford WBB, I was probably hoping Haley would choose Stanford for her own sake.

And of course she did.

That's a great way to look at it. I think she made the right choice for herself for the right reasons, and it's great to see that.

Jump is known as a great shooter. I'm sure she can play the 2 guard if that's where she's needed.

Really happy for Jones. Always had the feeling she was a Stanford lean. Less so for the proximity to family / high school but mainly because she seemed like a Stanford student, someone who was excited about going to a great community of thinkers and being surrounded by classmates who will go on to start tech companies, find cures for cancer and win nobel prizes. There was a passage in the ESPN article that eluded to that:

The diversity of the campus is something that excites Jones. "Having diversity is really important for personal growth," Jones said. "You get to hear all of these different perspectives on important issues discussed in college. It's such an amazing opportunity to be immersed in this community."
