Pumpsie Green and Ernie Broglio - terry - 07-18-2019
Two former major league players passed away yesterday. Both were known primarily for things other than what they did on the field.
Ernie Broglio was traded for Lou Brock.
Pumpsie Green was the first black player for the Red Sox, the last team to integrate.
Does anybody remember what Broglio and Green had in common? I think this has come up before on this board.

Both PCL players Ernie with the Oaks Pumpsie with the Seals. However Pumpsie played in the Oaks farm system.

Yes indeed! Ernie Broglio and Pumpsie Green both went to El Cerrito High. They were teammates. Green was Broglio's catcher.

NESN (Red Sox TV carrier) is running a "My Story" tribute to Green today at 5:30pm ET, FYI.
I saw a preview of it last night and it featured a pic of him in a Seals uni.

Pumpsie was part of the Seals great pennant winning final season
He was the first Afro American player for the Red Sox. 12 looooong years after Jackie Robinson. That was Boston then
