Duke Preview -

I posed a few questions to Patrick Cacchio of Blue Devil Nation, and some of his answers are pretty interesting.

At least they're ready for their own funeral. I guess it could be argued that anything that distances them from Duke football of the past is good thing.

Well, remember how all the world wrote us off against USC three years ago and how we made t-shirts about the Biggest Upset Ever? Duke's players are looking to do that, and if they succeed, the t-shirts will be about us.
Fortunately, the run blocking was so weak last week that the Cardinal won't be overlooking anyone.
There was once a day.... -

....when I wouldn't have been the slightest bit shocked if we lost a game like this.
I will be a little shocked if we lose this one, because I have myself convinced that this is the new Stanford, the team that shows up to play every game and doesn't play down to the competition.
We'll find out Saturday.

Great point, and you could also see in Andrew's comments and tone at the press conference that he was not happy about the performance.Â
I'd be very happy with a modest scoring game where we continue to iron out the running game and let Luck air it out a couple of times for fun. Be happy with just improving the yards per carry average.

I don't think Duke gets that same rally cry in a win. I doubt T-shirts would be made if Duke wins because Stanford is a wannabe in the BCS chase at the moment. Stanford is "only" a three TD favorite. Duke is playing at home. And it is early in the season, so it is not entirely clear how good or bad teams will become. Upsets like that happen all of the time in September. The U....S...C.. team Stanford played was clearly one of the best teams in the land, not just for that year, but for that 4 to 5 year stretch. They were at home and had not lost at home, at least before the NCAA came along, for years.
But Stanford is the current top dog in the Pac-12 conference, so the team should expect every opponents "A" game. That will certainly be true for teams that have no shot at a bowl game (i.e. U...S..C, OSU, Duke, Colorado).

Duke doesn't have the fire and brimstone in the belly of their coach that Harbaugh did, if this article is any indicator.

I'm curious to know if ACC fans bust Dookies' chops by suggesting they drop their football program, as Pac10 fans did to us during Stanford's dark days. I always thought that was amongst the lowest blows you can deliver.

But in football the entire ACC is pathetic compared to the mighty SEC. The ACC dominates Men's Basketball, errr..., UNC & Duke dominate Men's Basketball. Without Duke, UNC loses its instant Rivalry week access on ESPN. So the ACC needs Duke at least as much as Duke needs the ACC.
Besides, Duke is the ACC's Vandy. The SEC teams schedule 4 cupcakes at home and get Vandy giving almost everyone 5 wins. That means many SEC teams only need to win one out of the other 7 to get into a bowl game. ;D
The SEC benefits because of Vandy football and I would think the ACC football coaches like having Duke on their conference schedule.

"All I know,'' coach David Cutcliffe said, "is difficult times (are) when leaders are called upon to do their job.''
That quote reads like it was directly pulled from one of Ted Miller's "Worst Case" speculative pieces.

I'll pile on (football metaphor?) and use my first post to also express thanks for the excellent "Go Mighty Card" site.
