WBB: on to San Antonio - Spike - 03-08-2021

Who’s going?
We were in Knoxville and LA in 1990 and 1992.
Very tempted!

Who can get tickets?  Don't you have to be a relative, donor, or invited?

RE: WBB: on to San Antonio - Phogge - 03-08-2021

Non-political but why would anyone go to Texas with mask mandates down the tubes?

RE: WBB: on to San Antonio - Softball Fan - 03-08-2021

Find a hotel with dining area that has a mask policy.  Surely the arena will require masks.   I understand the reluctance to venture into a state that doesn't control wearing masks as a statewide policy.

The players and coaching staffs of all the teams must feel it's safe enough to get into and out of the state without contracting Covid. But it seems likely there will be some players who test positive during the tournament.

Spike - Spike - 03-08-2021

Those games will allow a 17% venue capacity for fan attendance, with masks and physical distancing required.

Capacity for basketball games is 20,667. So about
3,500 tickets might be available.

Go to the games, return to your swanky hotel, room service, drinks with other vaccinated fanatics.
And watch another epic Stanford run.

I have plane tickets and hotel reservations, but figure the chances of getting tickets is very low.

RE: WBB: on to San Antonio - fullmetal - 03-11-2021

Well...I'm vaccinated, and so are a couple of Stanford friends in my area.  I am definitely interested in attending if anyone has ticket information.  And if I go, I'd love to meet up with anyone from the board who's going.

RE: WBB: on to San Antonio - Jskass - 03-11-2021

if only I were vaccinated. CA is so behind the times. Would be in most other states.
And -- just saw that the ESPN choices for All-American do not include any Stanford player. Hope that brightens the already-lit fire under us!

California is roughly in the middle of the pack right now in vaccination (19% of people have gotten at least one dose, and 9% are fully vaccinated), and with the exception of a few outliers like Alaska and New Mexico that are above 25%, most states are within a couple percentage points of one another.

My wife was able to snag a vaccine by going to Moscone center and waiting until the end day and getting one of the leftover vaccines (from no shows, etc.) that would have gone bad if unused.  I anticipate that we are in a probably a few weeks away from vaccination being opened up completely.  The mass vaccination site at SFO servicing San Mateo county is doing 5000 vaccines a day for a county with a population of 800,000 (I am on the volunteer list, so I know how many people they need), and that is just one mass vaccination site.  The US is now averaging more than 2 million a day, and should hit close to 3 million by the end of the month.

Yes, saw that list, and Charlie Creme is not paying attention to what's really going on. He lists Haley as a player who was considered, but doesn't list Kiana. To me, there's no question between those two as to which should be considered, and it's Kiana.  I think Creme is just focused in on Haley's early season performance and her past #1 recruit status, ignoring the realities of how she is actually performing now. Playing well, but not at All American level. To me, Kiana really should be on an All American team, but doubt she will be.

As for going to Texas, I am vaccinated, but I still would be reluctant to go -- despite my record of having been to every final 4 that Stanford has been in except for 1992 because my mother had just died. Besides which, sorry to be political, but I just don't want to support the Texas economy by traveling there.

Looking back to how we've punched our ticket to the NCAA tournament, my summary of the Pac-12 tournament has been posted on the Fast Break Club site, www.stanfordfbc.org.

Where do I get my tickets?

I'm confident that I can still mask up, maintain social distance, and wash my hands, as can everyone else, even in locales where those aren't mandated.

New Mexico, at the top in most of the vaccine delivery stats, has the most restrictive rules on who can receive it.

RE: WBB: on to San Antonio - Phogge - 03-12-2021

Chronicle posted a couple of stories yesterday that basically say, “Whoa, we are close but keep focused.” One UCSF doc lists a 45% chance for a surge, another 100%. The surge to be milder next time but definitely caused by premature openings at a time where the prevalent strain is 50% more contagious.

Of course a huuuge number of Americans have the Very Impatient Gene.

Just a moderator's gentle persuasion to keep on topic and avoid banned topics.  And, glad we're pals.

If you have never experienced the River Walk in San Antonio, put it on your bucket list.  Also, Rudy's barbecue.

Add the Alamo to that list -- also the San Antonio Missions. The latter in particular are really worth visiting.
