One of the reasons I recommend sports to youth is because it’s good for character development. You train hard, you become part of a team, you push through challenges

Part of that character is how you lose.

Losing this game sucks. It hurts. It was winnable and a good team should have won it. Tanner McKee isn’t going to become “the hottest quarterback in the nation” anytime soon and the program is going to have to take a hard look at its poor running game.

But no need for sarcasm and mockery. You take one on the chin, get up, move forward.

P.S. But on a serious bright side: usually when we host a tailgate for our rather large group of fans (plus 10-50 strangers that just show up on the way to the game), it is an expensive and time-consuming endeavor in prep, in-game, and post-game hosting obligations.

For our game this season, I'm thinking a 12 pack and a couple bags of Doritos ought to cover it, as there will be no one interested in watching this team, under this staff, play this brand of football.

Yeah those last three sequences were maddening. All we needed was another first down or two to close it out and we couldn't get it, how easily Wazzu moved through our defense to score the go-ahead TD, and then the final insult, that sack fest to end the game.

Yes, and then I told myself I shouldn't care, but obviously I do, and that made me even angrier. 5 straight losses to the Cougars. Really? It's a sunny fall day. I think I will go out into the garden and cut something back.

I'll disagree about the secondary. You give any D1 QB five or six seconds to throw the ball and he's gonna find an open receiver. What I fail to understand is why Anderson wasn't sending 5+ more often.

It seems like we were sending people and getting good pressure early. and then it seemed to disappear. Not sure what the deal was.

Which one? There were several.

And I'd rather go down swinging than just watch the opposing QB sit back in the pocket untouched and wait for a receiver to come open.

First play of the drive, which was a 41 yard pass that took WSU from their own 30 to our 29.

FWIW I don’t think blitzing is a bad idea; you just have to make sure you get home. The blitz on that long pass failed to generate any pressure.

While I am not sure that all those nice, smart kids can't play, it does seem that both the OL and the defense lack a leader that has a real aggressive streak and who isn't afraid to point fingers when needed. One just doesn't see much fire in the players. There may be leaders, but if there are, they are the lead by example types. IMHO you sometimes need a guy who will get in people's face when they screw up. I obviously don't know what is said in private, but having a guy who goes ballistic in public when called for is nice.

I think it's fair to say that the David Shaw era has most likely run it's course. The recruiting has been slowly deteriorating in terms of consistent qualitative quantity (this affects depth), the coaching staff has slowly become a collection of lackluster and unimaginative collaboration of insiders (need outsiders on occasion to shake things up offer fresh perspectives), and lastly...the David Shaw way of play calling has been predictable and conservative without great in-game adjustments that also work against Stanford. All of this is clearly not worth this 9.52 Million nor would it be worth 3 Million a year. Unless some significant organizational changes are made...this ship is headed slowly but surely (and definitely unimaginatively) over a predictable cliff. The recent results (or lack of) are loudly speaking for themselves. Nevertheless I still hope that Stanford makes it to a bowl game this year as that seems to be the most likely hope going forward. Meaning....A successful season will be defined as Stanford going 6-6 and making a lesser bowl. The question is....is that worth 9.52 Million going forward? I think that is fair to ask.

Stanford has the second ranked recruiting class in the PAC-12 this year behind only Oregon. While it might drop a little but, while recruiting in the last few years did suffer due to self-imposed voluntary scholarship limits, I actually really like this class, which addresses most of our critical needs.
