What I’m Thankful for -
BostonCard - 11-23-2021
With Thanksgiving almost upon us, and looking for something a little less depressing than the impending game against Notre Dame, I wanted to put into words a token of my thanks (Stanford athletics edition). It’s been a rough two years since doctors in China first started reporting a cluster of viral pneumonias.
I’m thankful that we have a Stanford athletics. I did not pick the school for its football prowess, and back in the early 90’s, I new precious little about the storied history of Stanford athletics. I could have easily gone to a school without NCAA div I caliber athletics, let alone a program that year in and year out is the best in the country.
I’m thankful to all the student athletes who sacrifice their time, energy, and their bodies to pursue excellence on the field and in the classroom. I’m thankful that they have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, professors and senators, not just “former athletes”.
I’m thankful that the 11 sports were reinstated. No, they never should have been cut in the first place, and certainly not in the fashion they were cut, but I’m glad that they are back.
I’m thankful that 2021/22 is looking to be a near normal year, with few competitions cancelled and fans in the stands. Fingers crossed that it stays that way.
I’m very thankful that Tara finally got the championship she deserved. That’s not to discount what she did earlier in her career (which, unfortunately, was before my time), but I’ve watched her put together great teams year after year and fall just short. I expected her excellence and perseverance to be rewarded sooner, and I am sad that the championship didn’t come in a raucous arena bursting with emotion on a championship decided on the last play, but I am damned Thankful she cut the nets down in San Antonio.
I am thankful for all the other varsity sports, whether they finished the year on top of the world (WBB, men’s gymnastics) or have been going through a painful rebuilding. The athletes all practice compete day in and day out, the majority of them in relative anonymity.
I am thankful for this board and the posters on here, whether I agree or disagree with you. This is, first and foremost a community, a place where we can cheer, celebrate, debate, commiserate, and vent, and there has been a lot of that this last year.
So, to all of you, have a happy, healthy and fulfilling Thanksgiving. And, go Stanford! Give the Domers and terrapins, and Hoosiers, and Trojans, and Bears, and everyone else hell.

I echo Bobbbbbbb. And I thank him for his service. Thanks to all who keep us safe and look after us, especially those who are grossly underpaid. Thanks to the Greatest Generation who gave so much to fight tyranny. Thanks to those who flew the P 51 and to my mom for building them.
Keep safe all you Stanford Einsteins. Live long and prosper.

I echo all that has been said above. But I would like to add that I am thankful for The CardBoard--for those who created it and those who continue to, often behind the scenes, sustain it.

What I'm particularly thankful for when it comes to thecardboard is the passion some of you have for sports that get very little coverage on TV or even in print. Reading your posts about women's tennis, track, or golf can really bring those matches/meets and seasons to life. Thank you guys.

I have never seen such beautiful and breathtaking basketball played as that which the Warriors are playing these days. That second half against te Sixers last night was little short of sublime. How about Toscano-Anderson's and Draymond;s passing!? They have a real chance at the title yjos year.

The 24-8 run spanning 8 minutes at the end of the first half to three minutes gone in the second half was sublime and breathtaking. Golden State Warriors are flat-out amazing at this point.
And then Thompson comes back. And Wiseman returns... Fun year.
