Basically all the injured players we were in doubt over are listed as starters. No Ertz, no Owusu; interesting that Ty Montgomery gets the nod as the starting WR opposite Whalen.

Interesting, but I suppose it makes sense when you consider it. Montgomery is the only trusted receiver left who can stretch the field. I'm a big fan of Drew Terrell, but he's definitely best in the slot.

Based on...?
He has one long catch off a gadget play where defenders stopped guarding him. I don't want to be a pessimist, but he's really had only one good game (albeit it was a pretty darn good game in a high-stakes situation). Otherwise he's been invisible in the passing game, and has not demonstrated an ability to stretch the field, including last week after Owusu went down.
I'm not necessarily doubting his ability, but Whalen is the only WR I trust completely, period (notice I said WR, not receiver).

That's not quite accurate. Watch the play again--specifically, the replay which shows all 22 players. You'll see that Montgomery burns the defensive back with a great little stutter step in his route. The defensive back then runs into the safety. It was a great display of route running.
Whether he's ready for big responsibilities yet is another question, of course.

With Owusu definitely out and our biggest game thus far, both Ty and Drew need to step up in a big way. They both should be hungry and ready. Obviously Andrew can put the balls in their hands.Â
I was listening to Rod Gilmore last night and he was talking about Luck's ability to throw the extremely accurate pass based on the route being run and where the defensive player is in relation to the receiver.  He felt that Luck was unmatched in this area as well as his cerebral ability (might have used a different term). As for arm strength, he said he had spoken with a number of scouts that have analyzed all of Andrew's passes and that there is no issue with arm strength. Given that Rod played with Elway, he should know. Stated that early on in college John through some of the hardest balls that he had ever caught and even broke some fingers, but that he learned to control that speed, especially as he moved onto the NFL. Great analysis, although I wish he would be a little more pro-Stanford. He knows that this is rarified air for the Cardinal!

To clarify, when I said "trusted," I meant worthy of starting, given all considerations. So, essentially "is not Jamal Rachard-Patterson or Jemari Roberts."
And when I said "stretch the field,"Â I meant "is relatively quick and presumably a threat to stretch the field, so therefore opposing defenses have to consider the possibility at least."Â
We can't really be picky :'(
