Grant Fisher won the men's 10000 today, looked really good, very strong finish. harrison Williams not looking good in decathlon. But Whittaker, Willis, and Baker all advanced to the semis in the women's 800. And both Cranny and Donaghu both advanced to finals in women's 5000, cranny after winning her heat   Stanford athletes looking good!

Several of his best event today but he's behind now

Go LSJU and enjoy the meet WBB! I was at Heyward in 2008, 2012, 2016. Hallowed ground. But I never knew Oregon could be so toasty in the summer and I hope your seats are on the shady side of the stadium!

Williams into 3rd

Sitting on the shady, east, side in the am, few people attending morning event, then move to ticketed seats in the shade in afternoon. Works great!

Grant's time was nice, but I don't see anyone not capable of running sub 27 medaling.  World record is 26:11 I think.  That works out to a 4:13 mile pace.  I do not mean to denigrate Grant's achievement, winning the Olympic Qualifying and getting a chance to run in Paris, but there is simply a somewhat significant gap between a very good T&F athlete and one capable of winning the Olympics.  Our two great female 800 meters fall into the same category, near world class, but not quite there yet.  Making up the roughly 6 second difference between their best and the world class times can maybe be made up as they get older and train, train, train.  But you can't teach genetics.

The world record for the 800 was set about 40 years ago by a doper Sad it’s still recognized
The goal of the Olympic trials are the make the Olympic team not set records. 1-2-3, is all that matters :)).

Whitaker into the finals of the 800

Cranny just punched her paris ticket in women's 5000. Second in near photo finish, and beat Olympic standard by more than 10 seconds. And Allman crushed the field in women's discus qualifying, took only one throw, more than six meters better than next best. She'll be in finals on Thursday. And Whittaker was 3rd in women's 800. A great day for Stanford women.

Congrats to Whittaker, who ran 1:58.45, just a bit more than full second faster than she did in winning the NCAA outdoor championship. Super impressive!

It must be said that the 800m today was extremely chaotic, with Tokyo gold medalist Athing Mu getting tripped up around the 200m mark and finishing last. Whittaker jumped to the front of the pack early, so I don't think she had to alter her stride. Several other runners were at least somewhat affected, though no one else fell. One runner towards the back of the pack told media interviewers she felt angry at how the race turned out. There will be lots of media coverage of this race, but sadly it won't focus on the three women who actually made the team.

Edit: Just saw a replay, Whittaker definitely had to do a little hop after the contact. Another reason why it was a great, great run for her!

Well, you succeeded in denigrating Grant's and Juliette's achievements based on false premises. Simply put, the idea that they aren't world class is laughably false. I take it that you aren't aware that Grant's American Record in the 10000 is 26:33, not to mention that he was 4th in the 10000 at the 2022 world championships. There is a monster difference between a rabbited 10000 in ideal conditions and an Olympic trials 10000 (tactical and not-rabbited) in hot weather. Grant is every bit a contender to medal in Paris.

As for Juliette, 1:58.45 is 17th best in the world this year so far but she has beaten a number of the women in front of her, several of whom are American and didn't make the team. As an NCAA athlete, in 2024 she hasn't been chasing times in rabbited races else she'd be higher on that list imo. She is a strong contender to make the Olympic final with an outside shot at medaling. The world leader and favorite for the gold (since Athing Mu is out) is Keely Hodgkinson from the UK, who is the only women to get under 1:56 this year with a 1:55.78. The 1:53 WR can be thrown out as a massively-doped East Bloc record from the early 80s. 1:58, and esp 1:57 (which is in Juliette's wheelhouse), is absolutely a world elite/medalist time..
