It's a great game! GT's offensive line playing great, those guys also pass the eye test w/their bulk.

After nearly fumbling the game away on a boneheaded play call two downs earlier. . . .

Florida State is the new USC.
If you need a reason to hate them, other than that they're the heavyweights, consider that they're suing the ACC to escape a media rights contract that they applauded and signed willingly at the time. Now they're costing the conference millions of dollars in legal fees.
So fun to see them go down.

On the final drive, with about six minutes remaining, GT had the earned luxury of knowing their run-first offense put them in the best position to win it, and that as a bonus they'd likely do so with little or no time remaining for a dangerous Florida State offense.
By that point in the game, Florida State had shown that they could not consistently stop GT's run attack. 36-190-5.3 ypc for GT, that's really impressive going against an opponent with a supposed quality run defense (which was very legit last year, at least, with only two opponents gaining 190+ yards on the ground in the regular season).

Is Joe Tessitore an ACC specialist for ESPN. God, I hope not. He's awful . . .

FSU thought they were all that and a bag of chips. Maybe they should be thankful to be in the ACC. Otherwise a very exciting game to start the fall season of sports. The clock literally expired as GT's game winning field goal kick was in the air.

Thanks BC, much appreciated!
I watched from toe meets leather to the end and while I was prepared for OT heartbreak, I'm glad that kick stayed right.
I think our coaching and players are improved enough from last year that we don't pull a Bowling Green next week, or help us all, Alabama '81. (My first college game as a student was the falsest advertising of all time. Oh, this is easy!) I think FSU is legit, which is good news for us. It's a brutal schedule until you prove it isn't. One down.
Nice to see so much attention on the ACC in Week Zero, particularly now that we have four ACC schools in the family: Cal, Georgia Tech, Stanford, and Virginia. The recently retired Marine Captain is in charge of security for next week's school-wide 'gater in Charlottesville. He's in a Darden Veterans Group and they are throwing the party.

Drove up to Dublin for the game with my son. A fantastic atmosphere in Dublin with over 30,000 US fans. Pubs were hopping when we got there at noon, (5 pm kickoff local time). Experienced the first international Gameday telecast in the center of Dublin before walking to the Aviva Stadium. Good buzz in the stadium and the tomahawk chop got going early in the game but did little to help their defense in the 4th quarter. My first ACC game was a great introduction to the conference.

Jonathan McGill somehow still playing football after transferring from Stanford. He's a captain for SMU, but the Ponies are severly underpforming expectations as they're tied late in the second quarter with a Nevada team that's been woeful for years.
UPDATE: Nevada up by a touchdown at halftime. I can't stand SMU, so I'm definitely rooting for what would be the biggest upset of the day according to Vegas (SMU was favored by 27.5 points).

That's great to hear! Curious -- assuming you've been to a football (soccer!) game in Ireland, how would you say the experiences compare? (Crowd energy, involvement, etc)

Now Nevada leads 24-13 with just over 3 min to go in the 3rd quarter

Don't know how this game is going to end. Nevada's last TD drive was greatly aided by two SMU penalties, including a personal foul for spitting that gave the Wolfpack a first down on a fourth and long. But I've seen enough to say that Stanford should have a real chance for a win on Oct. 19 against SMU.

Stanford is playing 5 of the 7 top teams in the ACC, with SMU #7. Maybe a realistic shot at 4-4 in the conference.

SMU escapes with the win, 29-24. The SMU defense really stepped up to force a safety in the fourth quarter and really limit the ground-based offense of Nevada. I thought the SMU offense really struggled relative to expectations, espeiciially running the ball, and we know that Nevada does not have an overly talented defense.

Energy and atmosphere in the stadium although excellent were not to the level of an Irish rugby or soccer international. Take into account that these matches are 95% fans for one side (Ireland). This match had 50% FSU fans, 15% Georgia Tech fans and 35% locals/neutrals. Never going to compete with a big Irish match with those demographics. The fan involvement was different with the tomahawk chop and chant. Irish sports crowds passionately sing during matches (Fields of Athenry at rugby matches). The US marching bands before the game and at halftime are not matched by any pre-game or halftime entertainment at Irish sporting events. There was also an impressive flyover by an Aer Lingus jet. (Aer Lingus is the main sponsor of the event which generates over $100 million for the Irish economy.)
The pre-match buzz was up there with an Irish match, and there is not an Irish equivalent to Gameday. The pints kept flowing at the match with copious amounts of curry chips and hot dogs being consumed. (The Irish enjoy their pints during the game but no where near the food consumption of the US fans.)
My son said Pat McAfee had 9 pints of Guinness during his show on Friday night. That is impressive. He did not seem worse for wear on Saturday. Never heard of/or seen anything like that before on a national TV broadcast.

And now Boston College dives into Doak and spanks FSU by double digits.
FSU has been a heap of rank meat since getting cut out of last year's playoff. They really haven't taken that well at all.
