That's Miller time, but I think we'll need something stronger.

Sunny side STM here. You will get zero complaints from me about a 5pm start.
(And, yes, I stayed in my seat until the clock read 00:00… long after most of the Hokie fans around me had left.)

May I ask why you do it? Do you highly value sitting closer to midfield for the same price? Don't you still have to look into the sun at 5pm to see the field?
Our seats are in 116 row R, which costs only $60 more for the whole season than similar seats on the sunny side (130 and 136). The perspective from the 10 yard-line isn't ideal, but in my opinion, these are just about the best seats you can get on the shady side without paying the hefty "contribution" to the Buck Cardinal Club. We were in the shade already at 12:30pm this past Saturday. I tried the sunny side several years ago around the 35 yard-line and ended up squatting on the shady side for every game that didn't start at 7:30pm. With the state of our program, shady side goal line seats have become easy to get.

To borrow and repurpose a phrase I first heard uttered by a friend of mine about a particularly fan-frustrating major league baseball team, but that could perhaps apply in this situation:
"You can't drink enough to be able to watch these guys"

You didn't ask me, but my reason is simple. Tradition and nostalgia. Students used to sit on the sunny side. Subsequently I bought season tickets on the sunny side because that was the Stanford side of the field and only "old people" sat on the shady side. Had great seats in the Old Lady, and for some reason it was never nearly as hot as the new stadium, even with the "normal" 1300 kickoffs. New seats are higher up and perhaps "better". There are several similarly "mature" groups in our section, although we have had some significant attrition in the last few years.

I also was not asked, we sit in 134 so ~35 yard line. To move we'd have to convince everyone in our group to move (which is getting easier over time as we're now down to seven people from our peak of 14 people) and find a place that has seven seats together. We were in the stadium until halftime Saturday then returned to our tailgater for refreshments and conversation with our tailgate mates who sit elsewhere. I left at the end of the 3rd quarter, if I thought we had a chance to win (or even be entertaining) I would have returned for the second half.

Didn't see too many 95+ degree days in the old stadium, although I remember thinking it was hot outside the few times it crested 80 degrees back then. Might have something to do with global worming...

I do vaguely remember more than a few scorchers back in the old stadium, though due to "mitigating circumstances", I'm for some reason unable to name specific games/instances. I also always only sat on the sunny side, first as an undergrad in the 70's, then in Section DD as a STH. Let's just say my memory lapses <might've> had something to do with ability to bring coolers, kegs, bota bags, battery-operated blenders and fans, etc into the stadium, and leave it at that....

Those worms are relentless and quite hot.

I respect sitting on the sunny side for the sake of tradition and nostalgia. But the new stadium seems a bit hotter without the earth and bleachers to absorb some of the heat.
I also sat on the sunny side in the early and mid 90s when I went to games with friends that were students and young alums. I guess it just doesn’t hold the same cachet for me, which is normal because I was not a student.
My school’s team was busy rocking the SCIAC, not the PAC. By the way, we beat the Whittier
Poets not once but twice a few years ago and won the conference. We broke them and they no longer have a football program now. (Another theory is that it became too expensive and required too many student-athletes to field a team…)

We've started referring to mid-day games as, "cooking in the hot red wok". We really should have all games prior to Nov 1 start after 5pm. /Lefty
