What a compelling race to watch. My Dad, a middle distance runner in his day who loved to watch track meets, would have really enjoyed seeing that race.
At its best, indoor track is a lot of fun. As a spectator sport, it might be even better than outdoors, though the really big meets are, of course, outdoors.

Fisher ran 27.5 for the final 200 m, 16+mph, fantastic.
LSJU has had so many legendary superstar athletes in all sports and maybe Fisher is slowly taking his place among them!

29.28 for the last 200 m. 15+ mph at the end of a 5 K. Just wow.

Also falling, twice in the span of a week, was the indoor record for the mile.
Good article in the WSJ about the recent spate of records in middle distance events, including both records by Fisher. It focuses on the mile records, but mentions the 3000 and 5K.

(the article should be "gifted")
The article cites several contributions to the spate of records:
1) New track surfaces that return more energy to runners (and, in the case of the French track, lights along the inside of the track that guide runners with the WR pace).
2) New shoes that are lighter and return more energy
3) Baking soda(!). Apparently the big innovation was finding a formulation that didn't cause stomach upset. Fisher used it in both of his record runs.
Quote:And in the 3,000 meter race at Millrose, Americans Grant Fisher and Hocker both broke the previous indoor world record, with Fisher’s better time of 7:22.91 prevailing. On Friday in Boston, Fisher broke the 21-year-old indoor world record in the 5,000. After the race, he said he’d recently started using sodium bicarbonate.
