I read on the other site Bear was third string. That’s very disappointing in itself.

He's going to have to find a truly woebegone program where a true freshman QB would be the most talented QB on the roster. And that kind of program is unlikely to be able to pay him big bucks.

Sounds like he’s getting really bad advice from somewhere.

How long before his brother joins him?

Andrew Luck didn't start as a freshman. Neither did John Elway. See ya Bear. Best of luck. . . .

Maybe, maybe not. It is possible he doesn't want to be a third-string QB at a Stanford program that isn't exactly expected to be "good" anytime soon. Maybe better in his estimation to be a third-string QB someplace else that is habitually good. That way, when he works is way up to first-string in a year or two he will be able to play in relevant games and turn some heads. I have no idea what his NIL compensation at Stanford is, but perhaps it isn't hard to at least match it. It may be that he just isn't a "fit" for the offense we will be running and it isn't what he signed up for when TT was the coach. It also may be he just doesn't enjoy being at Stanford. If either is the case, going elsewhere may make lots of sense.

Sorry, but giving up a Stanford degree to pursue ... well, exactly what? I repeat: he's getting bad advice.

How much would a third string freshman QB on a 3-9 team really command? I guess the calculus is that he needs to see the field early, even if it is for a G5 or an FCS team, so as to show his value as a later transfer to a major school for the NIL money, but I have to wonder whether despite some very highly publicized exception, the modal pathway for players like this is bench on a middling FBs team to toiling in obscurity as a middling starter on an FCS team, and never transferring back to the big time for big NIL money.
I’ve said it before, but we don’t need to be part of this. It is sad to me that when modern collegiate athletics runs cross current to our academic mission, we are so willing to bend the latter.

He is leaving to pursue what he thinks will be a better "situation" for him. As I suggested, he may not enjoy being at Stanford. If so, going elsewhere may make perfect sense. He may believe other schools offer a better situation for him to succeed as a football player. He may not have faith in the Stanford program at this point. It also may be the Stanford program has made clear it doesn't have a lot of faith in him. It may be both. If either is true, looking for a "better" place to be makes perfect sense, especially if football is your #1 metric. I think it is quite obvious that for at least half (if not more) of the players, that is the case.
The Stanford degree simply isn't that big of a consideration for most of the football athletes. They at least pay lip service to wanting it, but not at the expense of what they see as their "football career". That is their decision, not ours. Their metrics are not our metrics. It is not necessarily true that going elsewhere even affects the "value" of their degree. The vast majority of college graduates don't go to Stanford. Lots of them do just fine. Bear Bachmeier may not be getting "bad advice" at all, depending on what career(s) he intends to follow.
I do agree that Bear Bachmeier probably won't get a tremendously lucrative NIL offer from anybody. For that reason I doubt he is transferring for immediate $$$$. He may be transferring with the expectation that by so doing he is maximizing his return over his college career. He may not be wrong. I very much doubt third-string QBs get many year-over-year raises. If he thinks he can move up faster elsewhere it may make perfect sense to leave. Both staying and leaving have risks. YMMV.

If you mean that being designated as third-string QB is disappointing to HIM, then I get it. But that often happens to entering freshman QBs, at least until they prove themselves worthy of being designated as second-string or even first-string QB.
If you mean that his being designated as third-string QB is disappointing to YOU, then I don't see why you feel that way. Do you think he should have been designated as first or second string QB before playing a single down of college ball as a QB?
Please clarify what you mean.

Gotta be a tough adjustment parachuting into a school mid year, after leaving all your HS buddies. None of the Freshman programs to acclimate you to the school, none of the we're all in this together camaraderie. . . .Then to find out they're may be not one, but two better players ahead of you. .. .

Not speaking for BobbK, but gotta think a little of both. He was touted by many pundits here as QB1. Elijah and Myles certainly haven't received a lot of praise. . . .

My guess is that he came in expecting to battle Brown for the #1 slot and when spring ball ended he found himself not only behind Brown but also behind Jackson. Pretty disheartening.
Haven't seen any official announcements yet so perhaps AL & Co, can talk him out of it.
I think it is inevitable that either he or Brown will eventually enter the transfer pool if they don't win the starting job. A little surprised that Jackson hasn't already.
