Andrew Luck Calling Season Ticket Holders - Row80Critic - 04-28-2025

Anyone else get a phone call from Andrew Luck today?  We have a block of tickets all under one name and, sure enough, Andrew called today to thank us for the support and push for renewal.  We planned to renew anyway, but we let him feel like he made a sale. ;) The times they are a change'n...

He is one of the few people who can move the needle on the meter with a phone call.  Over the next few years attendance will still come down to success of the product on the field.

RE: Andrew Luck Calling Season Ticket Holders - Mick - 04-29-2025

A friend of mine used to play baseball for the Giants, LF next to Willie Mays. He sold corporate event boxes during the 2010 NLDS, and had a client back out one week before the first game of the NLDS playoffs. He gave me a call, I bought it ASAP, let all the rainmakers know. I also let our Chair know...great guy, from Boston, more of a hockey guy than a baseball guy. I asked him to show, and he told me he could show for 15 minutes, talk to the clients. Two hours after he got there, he was still there, called me up and asked if we could get another box. Playoff baseball is a great experience.

Stanford football is a great experience. Yes, use Andrew Luck to sell it to Stanford alums, baby steps, I get it after multiple 3-9 seasons. But maybe Mr. Luck could speak to groups that haven't historically included Stanford football on their event schedule. It's a lot of fun, it's family friendly, weather is usually pretty good, seats are really good, parking is more plentiful than I wish it were... Many successful organizations have Stanford alums, perhaps we could seed/spread it that way. It's a little bit of a tough sell, but if you get them there, it's a great way to spend a Saturday.

I couldn't make that call.  What did Luck cover?  (Hope he does more of these!)

I saw 82jsju and JJJ on the call. Anyone else?

It was a lot of rah rah for the football program. Andrew knows that he needs to be the head cheerleader.

The only item of insight I got was that the football program for the first time ever will have a chief revenue office. They will cover tickets, sponsorships, etc. I think in the past those responsibilities were divided among different people.

Andrew was asked a question about his interest in being the Stanford head coach. He said that he has exactly the job that he wants right now.

That's interesting wording, "right now", implying things can change in the near future (or not).

Part of the rah-rah was imploring fans to show up. He said he would be reaching out to current students (he mentioned many of them didn’t know when to jump in All Right Now). And he knows winning is a must. He promised we would beat Cal and go to a bowl game (did he say win the bowl game? i forget). He will be at an event at every away game too, so please travel. He mentioned what a great experience it was during his playing days to see Stanford fans everywhere. I’ll be at the Hawaii opener and Reunion/Homecoming.

Like I said, 7 wins...

7 wins? I will certainly admit that AL knows more about the state of the program than I do, but while I hope he is right, I'll believe it when I see it.

Sounds like Andrew has taken a page from the EUTM playbook.

RE: Andrew Luck Calling Season Ticket Holders - gailtate - 05-02-2025

Seven wins.  SEVEN WINS?
He's taking something more than "pages from EUTM".

Agree. Some kind of mushroom extract perhaps :-). At this point IMO we have no reason to believe that the 2025 team is going to be markedly better than the 2024 team. It is true that changing the head coach often results in a (usually very temporary) uptick in performance due to renewed optimism on the part of the players. We are certainly seeing that "uptick" on this board :-). I do however think a better record, say five wins is quite possible simply due to some opponents this year that may not be all that good and the inherent variability in the performance of college athletes. It will IMO take some good fortune to reach even that. Seven wins????

From the Timothy Leary/Ram Dass playbook.

There, I've corrected it for you! You're welcome. Pas de problem!
