WBB Stanford WNBA - mbdude - 05-03-2025

fever vs mystics - YouTube  Indiana 79 - 74

Ashten Prechtel 18 minutes but only 2 points. Kiki decent game , 16 minutes 7pts.

Lexi 32 min, 13 pts

Washington Mystics vs. Indiana Fever - WNBA Game Summary - May 3, 2025 | WNBA

RE: WBB Stanford WNBA - 2006alum - 05-14-2025

Ashten was cut by the Mystics, which was not necessarily surprising, but a little sad because she showed out in her limited minutes.

The bigger story is Haley Jone was cut by Atlanta. Their new coach (from FGCU) runs a high velocity, heavy trey offense, so she seemed like a poor fit, but it's wild to see Carrington, Smith, Samuelson, Hull start and/or garner major minutes on good teams and Jones didn't even make it to a third year on a roster.

Genuinely curious where she goes from here - she's extremely likeable, but one of the least continuing-to-develop players I've ever seen wear a Stanford jersey.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how well Lexie Hull has developed in the league. I think a lot of people were shocked she went as high as No. 6 - but I think she is proving her worth this season. She's playing with a lot of confidence and you can tell she has worked hard on her game.

Jones being cut wasn't all that surprising if you think about it. Her versatility hasn't been an asset to Atlanta so far and she really hasn't found her niche in the league... yet. Will be interesting to see if anyone picks her up.

Also hoping Cam continues to heal from her ACL tear - i think she has a lot of potential as well.

You nailed it on the head with Atlanta's new coach and the heavy trey offense. Jone's worst aspect of her game is perimeter shooting. I'm not sure she gets picked up by another team. Her lack of a jump shot is still perplexing considering it never improved at Stanford, hasn't improved in the WNBA and hasn't improved even playing overseas this last offseason. It begs the question how much time and commitment has she really put into improving. Idk but some results should show at some point if the hard work is happening. Hoping though she finds a new landing spot.

My view on her jump shot hasn’t changed - she has to be willing to completely tear her shot down and start over. It isn’t repairable as is. Too flat. That is a big leap to make though.

RE: WBB Stanford WNBA - old spanish trail - 05-18-2025

The Washington Mystics traded Karlie Samuelson to the Minnesota Lynx where she will join Alanna Smith. The Lynx are a much better team.

RE: WBB Stanford WNBA - PVTree - 05-18-2025

Karlie turned 30 already. She's a veteran of the WNBA. Very happy for her as I enjoyed watching her during her time at Stanford and had my doubts if she was tall/quick enough to make it in the league.

She's been starting for the Lynx. Don't know if that will change once Alanna gets healthy. Different positions but it may have a domino effect.

Perhaps Golden State can give her a shot.

literally!

I know there are many people on this board who are fans of Haley, but I'm not one of them. From what I've heard, she was a negative influence on team morale in her senior year, and she was not a player who improved with time and experience. I, for one, hope Golden State gives her a pass.

Yeah, I don't know how many people here read the article where she and Lauren Betts talked about Stanford, but it was hard to do that and be much of a Haley Jones fan. She was certainly a big factor the year we won the NC, but something really soured her on the place and she didn't have much good to say about it. She also encouraged Betts to leave.

I will never get over them laughing about how they just blew off caring about the Ole Miss game.

RE: WBB Stanford WNBA - triangle2 - 05-20-2025

At some point, Jones appeared to become less interested in basketball and more interested in her own visibility/branding/marketing - which coincided with pretty obvious pouting about her game usage. Wasn't the story at the time that Stanford moved the post-season banquet so that it didn't conflict with the draft, but Jones blew it off anyway? I don't know if coaches ever made public comments, but it seemed to me that she burned her bridges on the way out.

During the basketball class, VanDerveer made several veiled comments about team chemistry including something like 'unhappy seniors, unhappy team.'

There's only one player who gets away with the flat shot, and if not for the butt contusion, he probably would have got the Warriors into the Western Conference Finals.

IIRC it started with her podcast.

RE: WBB Stanford WNBA - Nobadeer - 05-28-2025

Mystics 83, Fever 77.

Iriafen started, played 23 minutes (had 4 fouls, 2 in the 1st quarter), 16 pts 8 rebs. Hull started, played 31 minutes, 9 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast, and had the only positive +/- of the starters.

It's typically a 7 day contract with a player's compensation calculated as a prorated amount of the league's minimum salary based on her YAE in the league.  Short-handed teams use these contracts to get a little roster relief. Minimum salary rates are ~ $66K for players with 0-2 years YAE and $78.8K for players with 3 or more years of experience. At first glance, this doesn't exactly look to be a ringing endorsement of her perceived value in the league, but thinking about it more, if the contract's through the end of the season, Phoenix <could> be onto something, right?!?!?....

Glad to see the end of the Atlanta Dream point guard experiment for Haley.  It's likely she'll be much better utilized by Phoenix, though minutes could be hard to come by.  Haley hit her one and only shot in her 3 minutes of play in her first game last night, so is shooting 100% this season. :)
