WBB: Stanford 65 -- Gonzaga 52 - 2006alum - 11-16-2025

We've lost up there before, and Massey gives us 69% odds of winning, so in theory this should be our closest game of the season to date. (FWIW, notwithstanding everyone's griping - including mine! - Massey has us ranked as the 22nd best team, including the 28th best offense.)

Like us, they're a young team bouncing back from a lot of turnover. Their leading scorer is a freshman from New Zealand and half their starting lineup is underclassmen.

Their one notable senior is Ines Bettencourt, the Gonzaga transfer from UConn. She's close friends with Paige Bueckers, who came out for their surprise Thursday home loss to CSU. Will be curious to see if they're hungry to bounce back, because as of now, we're the best team they'll see on their schedule this season.

We handled them relatively easily last season at home, but then again, as KP's teams so far have been especially prone to proving, there's no place like home.

Not off to a very good start. Gonzaga ahead 15-6.

Has this team ever played together before?

Yikes.

Stanford narrows it to 18-13 with two minutes to play

… in the first quarter. Gonzaga extended its lead to 22-13.  Need subsequent quarters to be better both offensively and defensively.

Somfai and Eschmeyer should play at the same time.  IMO they are both better than Ogden.

We are Ofer from beyond the arc in the first 10 minutes.

They have 18 pts on threes and we have none???? I see only ESPN play by play so is anyone defending the threes?

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Gonzaga (2pm on ESPN+) - TheWildJacko - 11-16-2025

Yeah we don’t look great right now. Literally begging us to run some sort of play—any play. And maybe take more outside shots? We can’t hit shots we don’t take.

We’ve only taken 3 outside shots overall.

Can anyone here imagine a Geno Auriemma-coached team playing as phlegmatically, listlessly, or aimlessly as we have played in H1?

What exactly is up with the game planning, instruction, and/or practices that our coaches are doing/running? Really appalling!

And yet somehow we're down 2 at the half. Here's hoping the coaches have something inspiring to say at halftime.

Somfai only played 4 minutes in the first half.  Eschmeyer only played 2.  This is crazy.  MAS played 14.  Does Kate think that MAS is better than Somfai?  Ridiculous.

Somfai is starting for a reason - but she picked up 2 fouls in the first few minutes. Standard Stanford protocol to bench until the half.

No idea why Alex is getting such limited mileage, especially since MAS also had two fouls.

in post game meeting vs poly Kate praised Stevenson in front of team for her leadership and hustle [from instagram], so I'm afraid we're stuck with her

This decision is the biggest head-scratcher for me. MAS poses a virtually nonexistent offensive threat, and with the exception of her nice (though fairly telegraphed) backdoor pass to Ogden, she's not doing much for anyone else. She's doing her best to defend under the basket but has found herself in matchups that could really use Somfai's size or Exchmeyer's length, and I can see both of them being an improvement on our rebounding as well.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Gonzaga (2pm on ESPN+) - mbdude - 11-16-2025

Agara hasn't come out yet

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Gonzaga (2pm on ESPN+) - JohnR34231 - 11-16-2025

Well we are now up 40-37 so maybe we will pull this one out after all.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Gonzaga (2pm on ESPN+) - mbdude - 11-16-2025

dang, Eschemayer already subbed out. only 4 minutes so far, give her a chance

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Gonzaga (2pm on ESPN+) - here4WBB - 11-16-2025

Beginning of the 4th qtr, Stanford leads at 50-42.  Agara, Clardy and Ogden are the lead scorers.

Final 65-52, Stanford.  Very ugly start.  Lead scorers were Clardy - 20, Agara  - 16, Ogden - 14.  Gonzaga is a young team, and our upperclassmen carried our team.  Gonzaga also had 20 turnovers, which we turned into 23 points.

RE: WBB: Stanford 65 -- Gonzaga 52 - martyup - 11-16-2025

Stanford pulls away and wins 65 - 52. Not a pretty win, but winning at Gonzaga is always tough.

Clardy led our scroing with 20 points. Nunu Agara got a double double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 2 brinks and 3 steals.

RE: WBB: Stanford 65 -- Gonzaga 52 - TheWildJacko - 11-16-2025

Not the prettiest win, but we’re 5-0 now, and 2-0 on the road, so we’ve already equalled our road victory total for all of last season. I’ll take it.
