MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - skip75 - 02-25-2026

Unlike for many recent NCAA games - Michigan vs. Duke, Houston vs. (take your pick) Iowa St./Arizona/Kansas - the eyes of the basketball world will not be riveted on Pitt vs. Stanford today. Pitt is struggling just to qualify for the ACC tourney (currently in the 15th, and last, spot) while Stanford (not much further ahead - in a tie for 13th) jockeys for position in the ACC tourney and tries to keep alive the possibility of their seemingly annual NIT bid.

Stanford is favored by 9.5! Over/under is 137.5. Implied score is 73.5-64. The Panthers are 10-17 (5-16 following a 5-1 start), 3-11 in the ACC, and 1-7 on the road. Their best win was vs. Ohio State back in November (following their worst loss vs. Quinnipiac). After a 5-game losing streak, they won their most recent game vs. Notre Dame. They will be trying for their first 2-game winning streak in the ACC this season. They rank among the bottom three in the ACC in: scoring, scoring margin, 3s%, FT% (and FT attempts), and turnover margin. This is probably the last time Stanford will be favored, and they need to take advantage of it.

Cameron Corhen (#2 6'10/235 Sr F) is the only Panther playing today who appeared in Pitt's 83-68 win over Stanford last season. (Two others - Brandon Cummings, their leading scorer with 12.5 ppg, and Papa Amadou Kante - are out with injuries.) Corhen leads the team in rebounds (7.2 rpg) and, in Cummings' absence is their leading scorer (12.4 ppg). He also has 3 fouls/game - with Pitt's short rotation, getting him into foul trouble would be big.

Other probable starters are:
#7 Damarco Minor (6'0/190 5th G) at his 5th school in 6 years (2 JCs, Southern Illinois, Oregon State) 8.9 ppg, leads team with 48 3s, 3.5 assists/game (15th in ACC), 2.3 assist/TO ratio (11th), 1.4 steals/game (18th)
#22 Barry Dunning Jr. (6'6/195 Sr G/F) 4th school in 4 years (Arkansas, UAB, South Alabama, where he was 1st team All-Sun Belt) 2-time Alabama Gatorade PoY, 11.5 ppg, 0.8 blocks/game (18th in ACC)
#8 Omar Witherspoon (6'4/190 Fr G) 7.3 ppg, 0.7 blocks/game (22nd in ACC)
#13 Roman Siulepa (6'6 220 Fr F) a top Australian rugby player, 10.7 ppg, unusual stat - more offensive than defensive rebounds (81/65)

Only one player came off the bench in the win vs. Notre Dame  - #25 Nojus Indrusaitas (6'3/200 So G) like Okorie & Cammann, a Brewster Academy guy, he was New Hampshire Gatorade PoY in 2024. A transfer from Iowa State, scores 8.0 ppg.

Pitt has used, at most 8 players since the injury to Cummings. But the 6 players listed above get the bulk of the minutes.

This seems like a game Stanford should win, but nothing comes easy for them. I would really like to see them dominate and carry some confidence into the final home game vs. SMU and the road trip to UND & NC State.

I continue to appreciate your previews.
Even if our Cards have been stumbling around lately like on a late night snack run while stubbing your toe in the dark.
I do think this game is a Must Win.
Must Win to be able to look yourself in the mirror tomorrow.
Otherwise possible brown bags with cutouts for eyes and mouth may be in order... for us fans at least.

For a team that is the 2nd worst FG shooting team in the conference and has the 2nd worst FG defense in the conference and the 2nd worst assist to TO ratio in the conference, Stanford's record is better than you might expect.

Rohosy with yet another point blank layup miss.
You could make a "highlight reel" of these over the course of the season.

Jaylen Thompson with nice drive to show good reason why he's starting instead of Agarwal

Pretty sloppy game both teams

You do know that Rohosy has the 2d best FG% on the team…and the best of players with > 100 attempts…

Announcers talking about how Stanford might still hope to make it to NCAA's.
Ha ha ha ... good one guys

Thanks pointing out. I don't see all games, but of those I've seen, he seems to miss at least one bunny a game.

Pitt doubling of Okorie has been pretty effective against us.
JDS making 2 3's is a good start towards what we need to break up that double.

Their big #2 Corhen so far is best player on the court

Wow, Gealer with impressive couple minutes

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - SkiBum80 - 02-25-2026

At the half, Pitt's plan to double Okorie is mostly working.
Also the refs seem to let the play carry on pretty physical, which isn't working to our advantage.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - BobK - 02-25-2026

Okorie 34 Stanford wins 75-67

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - Nobadeer - 02-25-2026

Okorie certainly prevailed in the second half. Open the NIL bank vault for him! I think he's scored the highest percentage of the team's points since Adam Keefe in the early 1990s.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - Sam Leopold - 02-25-2026

Ebuka Okorie is a freaking superhero.  Having him back next year would be miraculous.  That was a little bit too close.  63-57 looked like real trouble

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - needle - 02-25-2026

Stanford one game off the pace of last year's team, which went 1-2 in its last three non-tourney games.

Can this year's squad do better to close out the regular season? I'm sure the oddsmakers will be doubtful, but I'll be watching to find out.

Didn't catch much of this game, but a perfect night from the free throw line is definitely a reason to celebrate, imo (yeah, I know it is mostly Okorie I'm celebrating).

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - BostonCard - 02-25-2026

Things were not looking great when Pitt took a 63-57 lead with under 7 minutes to play.  Stanford closed on an 18-4 run, of which I believe Okorie had 13 points (and shockingly only 2 of them were on end of game free throws).

Other than JDS, no scoring off the bench--ouch.   And agarwal seems to really be struggling the last 3 weeks.  My imagination?  or some minor but nagging injury?

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - PVTree - 02-26-2026

I'm surprised Young has been a non-factor all year. Yes, he was injured early on, but hasn't produced one solid game to my recollection since being cleared to play.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - SkiBum80 - 02-26-2026

Really glad for the team to get this win.
Looked in doubt for long parts of the game.
Was must win to my mind.
I long ago gave up hopes of NCAA, though I know is still remote possibility.
But was a must win to retain hopes of making NIT and doing some damage there.
As others have posted before, for this team to make NIT given the roster turnover and injuries, would be a big achievement.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - Nobadeer - 02-26-2026

Per SkiBum's noting the roster turnover, O. Sellers and St. Johns got blasted last night 72-40 by Uconn, worst defeat for Rick Pitino at St J.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Pitt, 5PM, ACCN - ADPinWDC - 02-26-2026

Jaylen Thompson got a lot more minutes (32) against PITT... Coach Smith trying to devise combos to replace Okpara, rebounds and defense at least.
