Andrew Luck... - FarmBoy - 02-26-2012

...is fast.

4.59 in the 40 at the combine. Most articles I've seen expected something in the 4.7 to 4.8 range. Apparently this is on part with Cam Newton.

The people who expected 4.8 must not have seen him play.

Re: Andrew Luck... - dabigv13 - 02-26-2012

Note Darron Thomas there at 4.78. Hmmm.

Also, Chris Owusu is putting in perhaps the most impressive day of any WR at the combine. 4.31 in the 40, 2nd behind Stephen Hill of GT at 4.30. Also tied for 4th in the bench press with 19 reps, 3 off the leader at 22. The best combination of speed and strength so far. What could've been...

Not second guessing David Shaw at all -- you have to protect a guy like Luck -- but always felt this year that Luck was playing with a bit of an imposed restraining bolt on his running.

Re: Andrew Luck... - fullmetal - 02-26-2012

Are those the runs for Griffin, Owusu, and Luck overlaid?

Quote:INDIANAPOLIS — Andrew Luck elected not to throw for scouts at this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, but the numbers he’s posting in other drills certainly are worth noting.

The Stanford QB unofficially ran a 4.59-second 40-yard dash Sunday morning, proving the Colts likely will land more than just a traditional pocket passer if they take him No. 1, as expected, in April’s draft. Luck isn’t Peyton Manning. He’s potentially somewhere between that and Cam Newton, whose measurables last year put Luck’s into proper perspective.

Luck’s unofficial 4.59 matched Newton’s official best time from 2011. Luck’s 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump was just 2 inches off Newton’s 10-6, the best of last year’s QB crop.

Finally, Luck notched a 36-inch vertical, actually besting Newton’s 35-inch jump from last year.

Luck’s numbers clearly demonstrate a level of athleticism with which the Colts should be very pleased.

UPDATE: Luck’s official 40 time was 4.67 seconds, fourth-best among QBs at the combine.

Re: Andrew Luck... - dabigv13 - 02-26-2012

I think that's RGIII, Cam, and Luck. Owusu would've been ahead of RGIII. Also the second place guy's got on a red jersey, which I think were last year's digs.

Re: Andrew Luck... - cardfan09 - 02-26-2012

Pretty sure the other guy is Cam Newton, whose Combine numbers were very similar to Luck's.

Re: Andrew Luck... - 76lsjumb - 02-26-2012

That's all well and good, but I'll bet if you put Sean Cattouse in each lane at about the 25 yard mark, Luck would beat Newton and RGIII to the 40 yd mark by 2 or 3 seconds, ... at least.  ;D

agree with the "Luck's running was proscribed this year."

thanks for the cool animated image.

I'll admit, looks like griffin can friggin run.  Hm, those two words are almost anagrams.

Like in some Greek myth it appears that Griffin is springing from the churning loins of Luck and Newton.Â
