thanks for posting.  If anyone has advice for getting single game tix, there are probably several people on this board who would appreciate it.

Yes BC, thanks for posting.

Stanford Athletics will have some tickets available, probably with preference for season ticket holders.

I don't have tickets yet, but made my plane and hotel reservations.

Geaux Cardinal!

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - 82lsju - 05-31-2015

the game is before Northwestern starts so I would imagine tickets will be easy to come by.

We're thinking of going.

If anyone goes be sure and stop by to see

I have a picture in my front hall of my grandfather and several of his NU class of 1891 classmates in caps and gowns -- and it looks as if they could be on those steps...

That must be a special picture for your family.  Lutkin Hall was built ~1941 so your picture is from another building.  My great grandfather started teaching at Northwestern in 1981 , 1891 the music school was a conservancy then, it became the school of music in 1895.

make that 1891, as for his genes, well at least his musical talent, that appears to have skipped all generations to date.....

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - winflop - 06-01-2015

Tix through Stanford will be in a corner but you would sit with other Stanford fans.

There will be oodles of tickets available on gameday.  NU has trouble selling out unless one of the B1G powers is in town (Wisconsin, tOSU, Michigan, Nebraska) and even then it's opposing fans as much as home fans filling the empties.

Plus it's Labor Day weekend so a number of locals will be out of town

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - fullmetal - 06-01-2015

I hadn't thought about going to this game...but Chicago's on my list of cities to explore (again).  Thanks for the tips!

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - terry - 06-01-2015

My trip is booked!

I'm going if the stars align - Redrum - 06-01-2015

Which means: we get decent tickets somehow,  we drive up from Dixie, pick up my best friend from childhood,  and contrive to get to the stadium.  The ticket situation is still completely opaque.  I've never been the type to take a wild guess and "just show up" trusting tickets will be available.  Who knows what will be available thru Stanford by the time ticket buying gets serious...

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - stanfan - 06-01-2015

Have always wanted to see Northwestern and Chicago, so this is perfect.  2 days in Evanston and 4+ days in Chicago.  Got my game tickets on Stubhub...seem like good seats at a reasonable price.  Really looking forward to the trip.  For those of you familiar with Chicago, what is on your list of "must sees"?  We have on our list the river trip, Art Institute, Shedd Aquarium, the Magnificent Mile, Cubs game, and Millenium Park.  Thanks

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - Leftcoast - 06-01-2015

Don't miss the Second City Improv and/or Wrigleyville on gameday.

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - CornFed - 06-01-2015

The Museum of Science and Industry down in Hyde Park.  Must admit that I haven't been in a couple of decades or more.  It's possible that it is now a retrospective look at visions of our technological future from the perspective of a not-too-distant past.  If they have kept it updated with the same sense of being at the "edge of the future" it should be awesome.  Lots of interactive exhibits.  Kids always love it.  Like the Exploratorium in SF on steroids.

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - CornFed - 06-01-2015

Deep dish, double-crust Chicago-style pizza!!!!  Yum.  I particularly like Gino's East.  Also, Twin Anchors has tremendous ribs.  And I second the motion to make sure you try to go to Second City.  Also, Rush Street is always an excellent debauch, especially for a sports-oriented weekend.

Can second that -- though I'm biased; my grandmother worked there. Some of the stuff is the same as my childhood (at least as of my most recent visit in April), some is not.

Also, if you like Mexican food, Rick Bayless's empire is good eats. Savor and ponder the paradox that Skip and Rick have the same DNA.

Chicago native here and a Kellogg grad (don't worry I will be wearing red on gameday!).

One thing I always recommend to out of towners is the Architecture Boat Tour on the Chicago River.

Others to see - Art Institute, top of the Sears Tower (no, it's NOT the Willits Tower), Shedd Aquarium and Museum of Natural History, Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park.  If the Cubs are in town and you've never been to Wrigley by all means GO!  It really is a different kind of ballpark.  I recommend Gino's East for Chicago style pizza.  Twin Anchors in Old Town for ribs.  Northwestern campus is a nice long walk but a good mix of nice old buildings, newer ones, and beautiful lakefront.  Museum of Science & Industry is an absolute must see and make sure you get tickets to see the U-boat.

If you're feeling adventurous, go out into some of the neighborhoods for some real authentic ethnic foods and culture - Taylor Street for Italian, Bridgeport for Irish in particular.

If you can get tickets for Second City, definite must.  At least half of the cast will be on Saturday Night Live in the next few years.

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - Stymie - 06-02-2015

Great stuff, winflop.  Thanks!

I spent quite a bit of time in Chicago the early 80's on business, and in my opinion it was then and still is is a world-class city.  I can't speak for the food now, but it was great 30 years ago and it is probably better now, from what I hear.  The architecture (general and specific) is worth the visit as are the museums.  As winflop says, you MUST visit the U-boat at the Museum of Science and Industry.  Even though it is our "enemy's" boat and not "ours," you cannot walk through it without beginning to begion to understand how much bravery it took to serve on such ships.

And, vis a vis architecture, another MUST NOT MISS is the Tribune Tower whose street level foundations are sprinkled with ~150 remnants stolen/given to the Tribune over the past century from such buildings as Santa Sofia, the Pyramids at Giza, Ankor Wat, the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, etc. etc. etc.  Ah for the good old days of Robber Baronism.........

Stymie

PS--Ms. Stymie and I are synchronizing our calendars, and might just find a way to get to the game in Evanston....

Re: Stanford - Northwestern - 2 for 2028 - 06-02-2015

When I think of Hungarian food I first am reminded of my grandmother's goulash and second the goulash at Resi's Bierstube.  It's certainly still around.
