I have not read the report either. As I understand the report it is the text message history that ties the whole thing together. After the AFC Game Brady texts the worker bees to hang in there, and they reply that it is stressful. Innocent enough, could just be stuff from a QB that cares about the staff. Though I believe a few texts imply he knows the deal.
However, those same worker bees text to each other for a longer stretch of the season. With the guy deflating the balls noting that it is "stressful" to get all of the deflation work done quickly. And those same worker bees have gifts from Brady over the season that suggests Brady was rewarding them for their efforts.
One needs to connect a few text dots and use some logic, but pretty easy to conclude that Brady knew about the process all along and rewarded the staff for their work.
Easy enough for Brady to just say he was giving out gifts as a nice guy, but I am sure those that work in the NFL (players, coaches, administrators) can make logical conclusions. In the end, it was cheating, though in a league full of bigger cheating scandals, domestic violence, gun violence and even murders this can't be the biggest worry for the league.Â
PED uses seems so much greater cheating infraction to me. Those guys only get 4 game suspensions. So that pretty much would be the ceiling for Brady if he can be linked sufficiently.
The organization, however, clearly was doing something and knew it was wrong. So I expect the organizational penalties will be noteworthy. And that might be a net good for the Indianapolis Colts in 2015!
