Love poor-sport youth coaches.  I remember the only coach who ever refused to shake my hand in any sport.  Circumstances?  Christian church league, baseball for six year olds, score not kept.
I don't know if you remember Dave Baldwin, he had some pretty good teams at San Jose State.  One of his coaches was a 1-AA All America when he played, has been coaching college football since 1986, great guy, exactly the kind of guy you would want to coach your kids.  His son wants to play Pop Warner football, he's got some talent.  Gets drafted, and father and son show up for the first day of practice.  He walks up to the three coaches, decked out head to toe in Raider gear and says "Guys, my name is xxx and I coach over at San Jose State.  I'd be happy to help in any way you'd like."  They look him over, head to toe and say "No thanks, man."  Son has a very unhappy year, it turns out to be the only year he plays football.  Sticks with baseball, never looks back.
I've coached about 20 youth sports teams by now, in baseball, flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer and track.  I could fill a book with the stories, a thick book.

Oh, Little League.  On my son's team I was the only father who didn't think his kid would someday play in the Majors.  Three of them made the HS FROSH TEAM; one was a BENCHWARMER (sorry, spellcheck INSISTS this must be in all caps) on varsity.  Of course they all knew the coach was an idiot, despite winning CIF once in our 4 years and sending two players to minor league contracts, one of whom actually ended up having a cup or two of coffee in the Bigs.

Ah my days as a Little League President.    :)    Sit in stands next to loud parents, once in the dugout to "help" a Manager.  Not Mick's League a bit north of him.  :)

Yes, sorry about the link. Basically he said that the kid's fame was a big factor in his recruitment. Of course, Neuheisel had to talk his athletic director into giving his son Jerry a scholarship. Here is a different link recapping what he said in the Sirius piece that was on Soundcloud.

Students should bring experiences and unique perspectives to a campus.  Not hard to imagine that a child of a current, or former, President of the USA would have tons to offer in discussions about political science, history, world events, etc. etc.  Realistically that is probably enough as long as the grades are not disgraceful.


Generally the children of Presidents are going to the very best schools and have all kinds of help to make sure their academic work is solid.  So it is unlikely their grades are off the mark anyway.


Stanford doesn't need the money in the way other schools might, still no doubt that an offspring of a President is going to bring a bounty of wealthy potential donors into a school's circle.


So that is why a school probably would accept a President's child.  Given that a President's child can go to almost any school in the USA, it says quite a lot for the child to pick your school.


A football program taking a celebrity child is not quite so clearly an automatic.  However, football programs now spend millions putting XBox consoles, TVs and other items in and around football facilities to lure impressionable athletes that dream of celebrity and wealth.  I have got to think many coaches would gamble a scholarship on a somewhat marginal athlete of a megastar if they thought that megastar could bring in a few 4 or 5 star kids along the way.  Imagine if Mayweather had a HS age kid worthy of college recruiting, for example.  I suspect quite a number of impressionable recruits would seriously consider that program if they knew Mayweather was on campus most of the time.  A coach would need to factor in Mayweather's legal problems and the questionable circle of friends, but I bet a few would take the risk to get that recruiting tool for a few years.
