In the past, many coaching shortcomings have been forgiven if there are wins over the University of Spoiled Children and/or kal.
Is that "hate'?
When I went of HS in SoCal-- back in the Jurassic period-- is when I first started even noticing U...S...C. Saw the kids in my senior class who went to S...C and my only thought was "It figures".   Through the years of numerous thumpings, a few "stolen" Tro..jan wins and an occasional win for the good guys I've had no problem wishing all kinds of bad luck on U...SC.  The LA game, our final shot at Pete Carrol is one of the few videos I keep around to watch. That was sweet and emphatic. Leave no doubt.
One thing: Tro..jans, when you get them alone, are a lot more tolerable than when they get in a pack and start reinforcing each other's world view. Man, the fist-pumping alumni rally (now ex-Athletic Director) Mike Garrett held up at the hotel in the Bay Area right after the Reggie Bush fiasco broke w/ the NCAA... that's a good tutorial on why people "hate" the U...S....C. It didn't help that the only defense put up by the U*S*C* posters and few bloggers right afterward was: "That's just Mike and he'd been drinking." Classic.
But stick around. We even treat some particular kal followers w/ politeness. If we can do that, surely we can be nice to lone supporters of that city sacked by Agamemnon 2200 years ago.

Yeah, those bandwagon Oregon fans can be real -- internal cleansing devices! I suspect that a fair number of them are not UO alumni. Oregon has no professional football NFL team.

I think part of this has to do with when you went to school. For me, UCLA is not so far behind the University of Spoiled Children*--my memories of UCLA are:
1) Their coming back from 21 down my freshman year.
2) Their denying us the Pac-10 basketball championship my junior year.
3) Their coming back in dying minutes to deny Stanford bowl bid my senior year.
For me, it will take a lot of beatings to Rick Neuheisel to make up the psychic debt.
* Though, of course, I don't like the University of Spoiled Children. Not one bit.

I wouldn't say it's hate I have for u$c. Maybe loathing--I mean, have you seen what that football program got away with under the Carroll years and how $c fans suddenly developed an attitude of entitlement and arrogance? Or maybe that was the other University of Southern California whose fans I'm thinking about.
Two things I remember: it's just a game, and we've had dry seasons too.
Also the men's rowing team has (or had, if they're not there anymore) that same public sense of entitlement.

I'm not sure, could you give me a brief list of the stuff they got away with. I heard something about some Bush fella, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing. All I know is that USC's the best program in the country, and deserves to win the pac-10..er, 12, or whatever it's called (there's only 1 real team in the Pac, and that's USC) every year. No other team compares at all, especially not some Cardinal Tree Farming Indians. I mean, when's the last time they won the pac? 8)
With all that being said, I'm just messing with you. I'm probably one of the most humble and level-headed trojan fans around. I come to contribute to the board with info primarily about CFB in general (actually recruiting). There aren't too many (good) free boards for Pac-10 teams, and I hope this one grows, and I think it will as long as the program continues with it's success.
