Several Stanford football/baseball players have left after three years to play baseball -- Joe Borchard, Chad Hutchinson, Darin Naatjes. I think Gaffney is likely to do that.

Aside from baseball guys, the only football players I can recall who left after three years for the NFL were Whitfield, Kwame Harris, and Teyo Johnson.

Some Stanford players have left after four years with a year of eligibility still remaining, but I would put those guys in a different category, because they've had enough time to get their degree.
