Oregon has put up 100+ on Minnesota tonight. I've picked the Ducks to beat N.D. in the Spokane Regional and face UConn in the Final Four. I think they have one of the few offenses that can keep up with the Huskies. Unfortunately for them, that UConn attack might pick up apart their mediocre defense.

Interesting thought. Might apply to some other schools as well...

Apparently we aren't alone in our thinking; interesting piece by Michelle Voepel on ESPN about whether Warlick might be on the hot seat. The short answer is no, not right away anyway, in part because she and the new AD are close. Voepel makes the observant point that the Lady Vols were actually on the decline long before Warlick took over, noting that their last trip to the Final Four was when "Ace" (Candace Parker) and "Ice" (Candice Wiggins) faced off for the national championship way back in 2008, a decade ago. It's strange to think that for as up and down as I think many fans have perceived our last decade to be, we've returned to the Final Four five six times since then, and Tennessee hasn't made it once. I also wonder how much their program benefited from an era where there was much less parity? When they could regularly stuff their rosters with top recruits and the landscape of women's coaching wasn't nearly as strong, out-athleting could get the job done most of the time. There's now more parity in recruiting but also in coaching, so that strategy only works against lesser teams.Â

Whoops, you're right! I miscounted somehow! It's crazy how my perceptions of our team's performance the past decade are much lower than the record reflects. Maybe it's recency bias.

Is anyone watching this ???!
At the end of the fourth quarter:
Buffalo 59 Florida State 45
Five minutes left in the third:
Central Michigan 47 OHIO State 25
Evil Blue is thumping Quinnipiac as usual - by 30 or so with 4 minutes left. And #5 seed Duke is walloping #4 Georgia on their homecourt, ahead by 24 with 5 minutes left in the third.

So the Pac 12 has Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford and UCLA in the sweet sixteen. This really is a superb conference. Oregon has gotten quite lucky--not that it needed it--and will play an 11 seed in the sweet 16--although Central Michigan knocked off Ohio State.
Tara did point out that neither Ohio State nor Tennessee are going to the sweet 16--but we are. We have improved a great deal over the course of the year.Â

Oregon State is up on Baylor early. Very early 9-6. Gulich seems to be a match for Kalani Brown.

Oregon State leads Baylor 49-47 after three. Let's hope this is the Pac 12's night.

I'd rather see the Beavers than the Bears, the Beavers trying to keep it up here.

Oregon State just beat Baylor 72-67. Stanford will play Louisville for the chance to play Oregon State.

UCLA up 10 on Texas after and-1 free throw missed, early 2nd quarter.
Both teams look a bit of out of control, but the pace seems to favor UCLA.

ATM vs ND is a tight game. #00 for ATM is really hurting their cause though.

Louisville is doing to Oregon State what they did to us. I think Louisville can probably compete with UConn. They generate turnovers and play close defense with sheer athleticism--screens don't seem to work against them. Louisville 41-Oregon State 28 in the third.

Louisville wins by 33. They might be good and we might not have been so bad against them
Still dont care for Waltz. Oregon state subs and with under 2 minutes Waltz finally subs.Â
Ucla At 4 today.Â
Oregon tomorrow

Well, the Pac 12 is not faring well. We were embarrassed. So was Oregon State. And now UCLA goes down 89-73 to a Mississippi State team that shot 8/13 treys and held Canada to 6/18. I hope Oregon looks better against Notre Dame, which I think has been overrated.
